Lived in Taipei 37 years - Robbery is non-existent, at least against foreigners. I was told that its because laws on the books where if a thief targets a foreigner they get lengthy prison terms and even a death sentence back in the 70's when US Military was in Taiwan. This was government policy to make Taiwan as safe as possible for tourists. I have not been robbed (knock on wood) in Taiwan in 37 years. If lost my wallet 4 times and had it returned twice (with cash) and never found twice. Phone - left in taxi 3 times, always returned. In all my years Ive only heard of 1 mugging, that was in Taichung in the late 80's. I walk everyday in Taipei and I have walked the worst parts of town at 3~4 AM - always feel safe.

Lived in Taipei for 2 years, the thought of feeling unsafe never ONCE crossed my mind - which cannot be said the same for other places, as a woman.

Taipei, the capital city of Taiwan, boasts a safety rate of 83.74, which is considered very good for residents and visitors alike. This high safety rating reflects the city’s low crime rate compared to other major cities globally. Taipei is recognized as one of the safest cities in the world, with a homicide rate that has been decreasing for the past three decades. The city’s stable democracy and warm hospitality contribute to its overall safety. While petty theft and pickpocketing can occur in crowded areas, they are relatively rare, and the local police force is highly responsive and helpful. Residents and tourists can enjoy the city’s vibrant culture and attractions with peace of mind, knowing that Taipei prioritizes safety and security for its inhabitants and visitors.

Impressively, it is very suitable for remote worker (digital nomad) long-stay in Taipei.

Taiwan is very underrated and it is muchsafer than Japan and South Korea.

In Japan and South Korea there's more sexual harrassment towards women but in Taiwan it's very low.

I went to Taiwan in 2019, a few months before covid and it was a very safe and peaceful place. Not a single person trying to scam, harass, or mug me even in large cities like Taipei. Locals just mind their own business and would rather help than steal from you. Their public transport, particularly the metro and trains are world class too. Taiwan is up there with Japan and S.Korea in terms of safety

I filed my taxes for this year. I'm getting back $585.00 from federal and $218.00 from the state.

Numbeo is a joke and the Taiwanese trolls on here trying to make it seem like it's the safest place in the world are hilarious. Can't wait for Taiwan to be inevitably retaken by China.

Taiwan is not part of communist China and has nothing to do with communist China. Please stand up for Taiwanese and help us to stop the bully from China.

Been travelling in more than 60 countries, i am honestly telling that Tiawan is really a paradise. Walking dogs at night time,
having food somewhere at midnight around the city can be so convenient and safe. Taiwan is safer than Japan

I’ve been living in Taiwan for 10 years, after long stays in several other European countries. Taiwan is really a paradise on Earth in terms of security. Taiwan is an example for this world with its education, kindness, respect, tradition and patriotism.

Gang violence is huge in Taiwan. Taipei does just a bit better at organized crime than the rest of Taiwan.
