I agree
However our local MP fails to see any cause for alarm regarding crime increase in Whitby
She compared Whitby to other cities in the FTA and doesn't think Whitby area /residents have been impacted by the ruse in gun / weapon/ violent crimes.
However, I do not have the actual stats but in the last 30 years I've seen population increase and feel the crime increase is become alarmingly serious here in Onrario.
Changes are necessary to make our cities and country safe again

I would say the following is a concern for crime:
- Drug use and drug dealing (mostly near schools)
- Vagrants (downtown area - I have been sworn at for no apparent reason, they seem drawn to any charities)
- Littering (sidewalks and roads)
- Vandalism (graffiti)
- Destruction (windows being broken in the downtown area)
- Arson (minimal in the downtown area)
- Burglary (downtown area)

Overall, I think most people are law-abiding citizens (apart from being litterers). However there is a minority that does cause problems, which I think the locals feel somewhat defenseless over. Increasing police presence would help a lot. Every encounter I have had with the police has been positive. I am not even a pro-establishment type of person either, but the Durham Police are very friendly.
