I live in Oakland and agree with the comment about dropping the bomb on Oakland. I am ok being here while it drops, if it means this place can vaporize. There are the hills for the wealthy and the flats for the rest. The location and nature potential is astounding here. People are nasty and generally embrace lack of education with a focus on ghetto culture. Robbing you gives them street cred. If they rob you wearing pants around the ankles, double points. The people are the only thing that make this area crap. I am white and had a lot of hateful racist crap thrown at me because of it here. Gentrified? Maybe the prices, not the culture. Living here is a prison sentence for me. Love makes you make terrible choices sometimes.

Oakland itself really is a shithole. Most areas are old, run down and either somewhat unsafe or very dangerous. San Francisco is moving in the shithole direction as well. Although not nearly as unsafe, there are some unsafe areas, and cars get broken into on a constant basis. In San Francisco there are many "street urchins", who just stick to the sidewalk in busy areas, with festering garbage and often used drug needles strewn about. They are often passed out in their filth. In the financial district the metro escalators often break down because these peons constantly shit on them at night... the gears get "gummed up" and break the escalators. There's even a shit map for the city that highlights which sidewalks are the worst. Just Google San Francisco pop map. However, 15 minutes east of Oakland, near walnut creek and Pleasanton is very nice and safe.

Lots of cool culture but this is all ruined by the fact that Oakland is super dangerous. One time I left my car alone for five minutes in broad daylight and when I came back the window was open and everything was stolen. Craphole city

A cesspool of a city that’s dirty, disgusting and out of control. The people are animals with no care for the value of human life. Drop an Nuke on it already and get it over with!

I grew up and lived in Oakland. Everything you have heard about Oakland is true. There really isn't a "safe place" in Oakland, except if you are in the Oakland hills, but even there, crimes happens. You could be mugged, robbed, Shot, or stabbed anywhere at anytime in Oakland. If you are anywhere on a numbered street, example: 8th st, 20th, 65th, 98th. You are in a very bad area. The area around the Oakland coliseum and west Oakland is VERY bad. The police are very busy, so don't expect the police to come fast when you call because someone robbed you of your phone and bag. Car windows being broken into is a daily, no big deal thing. NEVER! leave ANYTHING!!! in your car. NOTHING!! not a cell charger, Not an empty bag, not a dead cat. They love the rental cars and know that the bar code on the window means money! ANYONE that states " In alot of places in Oakland you are completely safe" is lying or wants to rob you. DON'T LET ANYONE get too close to you or come near you to "ask a question". The closer they are to you, the worst it's going to be.
