I confirm that Westwood plateau (300 m above the city) is very safe. The ethnic distribution is well-balanced: about one third East-Asian (Chinese and Korea), one Third from the British Isles, and one third of other origins, including a majority of Iranian. I am surprised reading about violence occurring in the lower part of the city as I never ever witness any since I arrived in Coquitlam 3 years ago. But I have to admit that I rarely get to the city more than once a week. Compared from France where I am from, it most peaceful and safe.

Depends on the specific area of Coquitlam. I'd say North Rd and Austin Ave are the "worst" areas as far as transient, poverty, crime, homelessness, etc., but many areas that are less accessible (i.e. Westwood Plateau, Burke Mountain) are virtually crime-free. I live in the High Street area just off Lafarge Lake Skytrain, and it's very clean, safe, and borderline transient-free (thanks to nearby City Hall and its large police station).

Compared to where I used to live in South Granville area of Vancouver, I can't believe how clean and safe it is for me and my young family in Coquitlam.

There has been so much gun violence in Coquitlam in 2021. It's extremely discouraging for families who bought into the area thinking it was safer than Vancouver and Burnaby.
