Hello everyone,
I got a job offer from a good company in Brno. The gross salary is 51000 monthly. Is that enough to cover all the living costs (rent, food, transportation...)??
Can I still make some savings from that?

Hello every one

@Bark, 65k CZK gross is about 46k net, which seems to little to support yourself, wife (if she doesn't work) and three kids. You will need to rent 3+1 (at leas) and you can expect up to 25k monthly just for rent and utilities. So you are left with 20k to feed 5 people, transportation, services, etc. for all of them. I mean you can probably manage, but you will save nothing, you will not get any rich and I am not sure it is worth it. Impossible if you wanted private kindergarten or school for kids.

You may see that locals have usually much lower wages and are fine. But please remember, most of them own their houses and apartments without any mortgage, and if they don't, they usually do not have 3 children and not working partner.
Bark on Dec 06, 2019:
What would be the reasonable income for a family of five (2 adults and 3 kids). Would 65k gross be okay?
igor slávek on Nov 16, 2019:
@salvatore saia. 40k gross mean 29630 net. It is little bit above average for Brno, little bit below for technical experts. I guyess ok for junior developer, expect raise to 60 within 2 years. Your main expenditure will definitelly be rent. Nice 1+1 for a single person varies between 9-14k including utilities. Room in a shared flat 4-8k. Overall I would say that you can live a decent live, but nothing too fancy. Though you can get a good lager for 30-40 czk:)

Hi
Iam Andrew I was offered a job with a gross of 27000.on the salary calculate is it advisable to indicate number of children even if I won't come to live with them there
Rico on Feb 15, 2019:
@Daniel what kind of job ? Are you planning to live alone ?

28k gross is about 21k net. For Brno not so much but doable.
Daniel on Feb 04, 2019:
I was offered a job with 28'000 CZK gross monthly, do you think I will be able to live in Brno with that salary?
Cormacus on Jan 21, 2019:
>Could anyone please advise what's the minimal convenient salary in Brno for a family of 4 (husband, wife, two small children). For example, will 60K CZK gross be enough? Or will it all be spent on basic needs each month? Some additional information: 1) We'll have to rent an apartment, ideally 3+1 or 3+kk, but at least 2+1, I guess. 2) We don't really go out, so no big expenses there. Thank you in advance!

Oh, and we'll need a kindergarten. I'm not sure if state ones are available, so probably a private one.

Andrej, it's correct, but the bad ratio salary/lifecost is much worst that you said, especially for foreigners
Andrej on Oct 19, 2018:
This might help you compare your offered salaries with costs and make the decision:

Average salary in Brno is about 30,000 to 35.000 CZK gross per month (about 25,000 CZK after taxes). But there is one big BUT: please remember that majority of local citizens own their flats or houses because of policy in 1990s that gave away large portion of council flats very cheaply to the tenants. These people can live very decently from such a salary as they do not have to pay no rents not even mortgage.

It is more complicated for rest to live from such a wage, almost impossible if you have to support family.

Single room in shared apartment is 6,000 - 9,000 CZK, 1-bedroom flat is 13,000 - 16,000 CZK per month incl. energy, decent 3-bedroom flat is well above 20,000 CZK, might be even 25,000 CZK incl. energy. You will be expected to pay a deposit of at least 1 monthly rent in advance + fee for property agent (also usually one rent).

Other expenses will be rather low, healthcare is very good and free of additional charges (you and your family have to be insured, it is included in your general taxation), dentists are expensive though, public transportation is extremely good, frequent and cheap, food is standard, city is very safe ...

Now you can calculate on what salary you can live comfortably based on rent prices mentioned above, whether you are single, with partner, or with family and what are your preferences.

If you want to buy, you have to count with 60-70,000 CZK per sq. m for small apartments and 55-60,000 CZK per sq. m for large apartments. Decent 3-bedroom flat sells at least at 4,000,000 CZK in suburbs.

General rule of thumb: For those unlucky not to own a property in Brno, ratio wages/rents is quite bad. Best option is to be a couple without children where both of you are fully employed.

Please also note you will face some language problems, but it is manageable with some patience and good will.

Hi, can I live with 1100 Euro a month?
Asif Mansuri on Oct 06, 2018:
With 59000 gross czk will be enough for family of 3 with child in school
John on Sep 16, 2018:
if I purchase my own apartment, can I live with $1200 USD a month?
#Bark on Sep 06, 2018:
Hi everyone,
I have recently get a offer of 50000 per month in berno. With a family of four (2 kids+ 2 adults) is that enough to cover living cost
Camila Corsini on Aug 15, 2018:
A gross salary of 55k czk per month is enough for a single person?
Helper on Jul 07, 2018:
Decently yes, but don't count a car, shared flat probably and the less you can imagine, surviving basically...
Yes, usually is 2 months of notice, also for rents, + the current month always, so it can be even 3 at the end.
Tony on May 23, 2018:
Hi everyone,

Was offer a job for 30 000 monthly. Doesn't seems to be much, but would it be ok for a single person to leave decently in Brno? Will I find a single room for that price? Also I was told that if I find a better offer after I have to give 2 months notice to my employer, is it really true?

Hi I got an offer of 27000 czk will this be enough to rent a room for a single individual?
Anonymous on Jan 18, 2018:
@Alex, IMHO, with those number you could survive, not live, and only if you live in a shared room. Private rooms are +8000czk. Small apartment are around 15.000czk/month or more (plus electricity and so on). Prices are increasing quickly in this city. I wouldn't come here to live with less than 30.000czk net salary if you plan to live alone, and probably it will be worse in the next years.
Alex on Dec 11, 2017:

If we are a family of two, what net salary I should expect during interview to be sure that we would be able to have a decent standard of life?
Abdou on Sep 07, 2017:
@koudy
Please with a net salary of 40k could be enough for a family of three members? and what is the price of renting an apartment with two rooms ?
thank you.
koudy on Jul 16, 2017:
36k after taxing is a good salary there. Everything above 30k is ok. People in Brno can spend 3-9k for food, it really depends. Stats above are quite correct.
Anonymous on Jul 03, 2017:
@Zola & Elaro
if you got offered 36K gross, that is cca 28000 after taxes.
Rent for a 3+1 or 3+kk alone would cost you 16-20k depending on location.
So that leaves you with cca 10k for life, and no its not nearly enough for a 4 member family to have anything resembling a decent life.
Zola on Mar 16, 2017:
Same situation as #Elaro : net offer about 36K, 2 kids one of them at school.

Would be this ok for an expat please?
Elaro on Mar 06, 2017:
Hello I've received net offer about 36 000. I have 2 kids and my one of them is a schoolboy. Do you think it's enough to manage my family there considering by renting 3+1 or 3+kk apartment?
Anonymous on Feb 04, 2017:
@Joseph No. If you are single, i think 40k gross is the bottom limit, more if you have a family (Im assuming ofc you will rent, if you dont pay for the apartment its a different story).
Ofc you can technically survive with 25k, but i wouldnt call that living.
Joseph on Feb 02, 2017:
Hi all, I was offered 25.000 czk gross in Brno.
Any comments? Is possible to live healthy in Brno with this amount of money?
Thanks.
