1. Architectural capital. The eyes of the architectural community in the 1990s were directed to Nizhny Novgorod, which was proclaimed the unofficial architectural capital of Russia. 2. The Kremlin. Nizhny Novgorod Kremlin is one of the most distinctive Russian Kremlins – it stands on a high run above the Volga, but its location is only one of the advantages. Amazing buildings: the 17th century - the Church of Michael the Archangel, the 18th century – Public places, the 19th century – the Arsenal, in which a Center for Contemporary Art is being created according to the project of Evgeny Assa, the 20th century – the constructivist House of Soviets, built in the form of an airplane. 3. River and terrain. Volga and Oka, hills, ravines, one of the best Volga embankments. "This city, royally placed over the entire East of Russia, completely turned our heads. How delightful are its boundless distances!". This enthusiastic statement by Ilya Repin is not a figment of the artist's imagination, but a very real fact.

4. Industrial fist. Or, in official language, "a large industrial center." This was done in Nizhny Novgorod – Gorky and is being done by many cult objects of the 20th century. In Krasny Sormovo - hydrofoils "Meteor" and "Rocket", at the aircraft factory "Sokol" - MiG aircraft, on GAS - the famous cars "Victory" and "Volga". 5. Wooden buildings. Nizhny Novgorod was not occupied during the Great Patriotic War, thanks to which many interesting objects of wooden architecture were preserved in the city until the end of the 20th century. Today you can catch the outgoing wooden Bottom. Model churches and houses can be viewed in the museum of wooden architecture, located in the picturesque Shchelokovsky farm.

I live in Nizhny Novgorod. There is high security, low prices, moderately good roads, traffic jams almost there, but the flow of cars is dense. Odorless air is almost everywhere except for the water treatment plant and a couple of food processing plants.
Ivan Ligovsky on Jan 11, 2019:
I visited Nizhniy Novgorod many times. Most of the time there was a strange smell in the air. Maybe it caused by numerous factories and plants. Actually, there was a time when air was fresh and pleasent to brief. I don't know what it depends on. Air is generally polluted, especially on streets with a heavy traffic.
Cost of living is the same as in any other city in Russia. Not too expensive.
In addition to traffic, Nizhniy Novgorod suffers from traffic jams during rush hours. It's actually okay and doesn't lasts long, for about an 1-1,5 in the morning and in the evening.
