Safety depends on which area of the city you are talking and which gender you are discussing. If you are a male you are safer than. Walking alone specially in the middle of night is not safe for a woman.

Thanks so much Hotan Farahani . Do you have some email ? Do you think people would spend more money (200 - 250 euro) on advanced devices ?
Hotan Farahani on Feb 22, 2019:
@Walter,
Are there lots of car thefts ? Yes
Do people use car anti theft locks or alarms ? Yes
Can someone post the link of those anti theft devices in Tehran ? Search on internet (قفل پدال ، قفل فرمان )

While it is true Iran has a bad media image for unfair reasons, unfortunately this page is actually the reality in Tehran now. I have been living in Tehran for the past 3 years and crime has been steadily on the increase. We live in a good neighborhood, but tonight we came home after shopping and the lock on our building's front door had been completely broken off. A few months ago one of our neighbors in the building had their apartment broken into and things stolen, and then a second break-in happened and people's bikes were stolen. At work people are also discussing the number of break-ins that are happening these days. I have seen women physically attack each other on the subway to the point where they bashed each other's heads against the door of a moving train, scratched each other's faces until they were bleeding, and then once the train had stopped they simply moved the fight off of the train and into the station. Another time I saw two women kicking each other in the face while sitting at opposite ends of the subway benches on the train. People have also been stabbed on the metro in the past few months - which has been written about in the Persian newspapers. If you are a woman, be prepared for guys even following you on motorbikes and even spanking you. I haven't even mentioned the amount of inappropriate comments you will receive...

This page is absolutely false. How could they call Tehran unsafe? It's one of the safest places on the planet. I have been all around the country and besides being helped or respected, haven't seen anything else. No crime what so ever. The results displayed on this page are misleading and false. I guarantee it.
John on Apr 03, 2017:
This result is pure lie. I can't imagine a safer place other than some rich northern European cities.
Noushin on Mar 01, 2017:
I'm a 43 years old Iranian woman who lived all her life in Tehran. unfortunately I should confess that Tehran is not a safe city for it's people. As you see in the results, the citizens treat foreigners totally differently.
