I've been living in Prague for two years and been in the streets, in pubs, and public transport day and night. Despite of the "danger" to meet drunken and therefore sometimes offensive people from every parts of the world it is safe. You have to bear in mind that this city is party paradise of Europe as nowhere else alcohol is so cheap and drugs are so easy to reach. But yes, I have to agree with Reggie in a certain way as Czech people are aware of the wealth gap between them and westerners. And, although it's going better and better every year there are still people who are going to find their way to cheat you. But hey - my Jewish Granfather said: "ignorance has to pay taxes!"

thats not truth, here in Prague a woman cannot walk in the night alone without meeting stalkers, junkies, perverz people etc. Many times I have been walkin in the night some junkies wanted to beat me because of the way I look or I met some guy masturbating in the bus station and I am not the only one who has that expirience, many inhabitants can approve this what I am saying!

Prague is generally fairly safe. Beware of pickpockets, taxi drivers cheating with fare and small money exchange offices that have very poor exchange rates and hidden fees despite showing a large "0%" on their ads. Other than that, just use a common sense and you will be fine.

Hi Reggie, I think you just have bad personal experience and I believe next time it will be better! I didn't hear anything like that from my foreign friends who are visiting Prague. You can meet people with bad intentions everywhere.... Also, I live in Prague and I think 32% crime rate is too overrated...Yes sometimes there are thefts in public transports or there are few places where I wouldn't go alone during night, but that's all... I am really wondering, how it's gonna be when I am going to visit city which has 80% ... Should I be worried or not ? haha ...

Personal integrity is the biggest crime. I booked Pension Volina on line. It was not as advertised, they refused to deduct my large deposit, the daughter, who sort-of speaks English, was verbally abusive. I booked at Hostel Marabou with another booking agent. The price was higher than the online contract. It was either lose another deposit or pay the higher price. I helped a guy with a broken leg for 2 months. Due to a glitch in my US bank account, I couldn't use my bank card for cash, and was 3 weeks late in rent. I asked him if I could transfer the money into his account and I'd pay him the equivalent of $50 'for his trouble'. Bear in mind, I had his pin because I got money out of his account several times. My money came, he was gone with all of it.
