I lived there for a year, and I never locked the house door. When I had to fly to Bangkok, I just left my motorcycle at parking lot in front of airport, with ignition key inside and helmet on. I know lots of people there living there for years, and they all can confirm the same - the only real problem in Phuket (and in Thailand as well) is bribery and corruption. But htis place is really, really safe... Like almost all the Thailand, except of Bangkok and Pattaya.
