I went to Naples the day after new years eve and I was shocked. Especially in the districts near the main railway station are nearly only poor people and refugees, garbage is everywhere and even poop on the sidewalks. Also worth knowing: at nearly every bus stop/piazza, the military is partrolling armed to the teeth. All in all not a great experience - even the great food can't up my impression!

Was there on a class trip. We all looked like fucking german tourist [what we are :) ] and went to the areas where all the heroin syringes and stolen scooters are filling the alleys. Even smoked weed in those particular areas, and wandering around in such rough streets stuffed with blackmarket stands and with no self-control maybe was not a good idea. We were in a group of 5 though and nothing happend. Always keep an eye on your city map tho, because you enter the problematic areas pretty quickly :/

#Ivano Stella: If you're comparing Naples to Berlin and HK you truly don't have a clue.

These statistics are not good at all! People perceptions are not worth anything, they are often based on half truths and misinformation and inaccuracies. If you look at attacks and rape rates you will see tha Naples is actually safer than a lot of other Western cities.

Yeah,Naples is a mayor city in Italy with the highest crime rame in it's pensisula, but it's not balanced in all of the City's districts and neighbourhoods equally. For an example, compare Vomero with Quartieri Spagnoli. Well, why the crime rate is so different and not equal.Because Qs has lower income that rest of the districts in Naples and that's why Mafia, babygangs, and other gangs are dominating this district. Of course,Mafia controls all of the city, but where income, like Vomero,is higher,or in city's center in Naples,it's harder. So,mafian and gang members are concentrating in these area's,where corruption, poverty,is higher.
Camorra and other's are hiding and ruling Scampia district because the whole district is impoverished and they can safely hide there. It's easier for them to hide in more impoverished areas like Scampia.
Simply,Naples crime is not equally balanced in all o it's districts and just avoid pickpockets and Qs and stay in city centre where Mafia hasn't so dominant and where you can feel safer. Browse Quora, other local sites about city administrative facts, read experience and you will understand.
Naples is a really beautiul city, because of it's historical heritage which you won't ever find in US,like San Francisco. But the most important,Naples has that magic culture From locals, which,in my opinion,is absolutely different From the rest of the world. I love Naples as a city. but of course,I wish Mafia could be less dominant in city and corruption too.But simply,as a tourist, avoid few crime ridden(sadly) districts of Naples stay in City centre and use tips to avoid pickpocketing and enyoy Naples historical Center and it's Skyline,Pompeii and Vesuvius. Naples natural skyline and architecture art at a glance is something, that I can't compare something else with other city in the world.Naples as a city isn't blame for the Mafia.Just check numbeo,London or also artistic Paris are safer that Naples? No,because they have the the same thing, there, where, district's are more impoverished, crime rate is spiking comparing with city's safest and richest district's.
I felt in love by Naples, but the crime in some areas,of course, needs to be reduced and fixed, like Forcella,Os,and few other's.Well,as I said, better is city's centre where just avoid pickpockets and stranger scams. Sadly, but, like Scampia or Qs needs to have also some force for Italian army,it sounds silly, but really, these district's needs to have a little bit more protectence, because the crime issue. Well, that's sad and I hope that something will change in those district in further decades, hoping so. All love to Naples.

Dude, Naples is not that bad at all. In the city centre it is actually safer that other italian cities because people still live and work there, you feel safer because is more alive for all nights.

Naples dangerous city? Like any other cities it has its hot spots . It's a great city has character and charm Can you say the same refs to Chicago or Rio dijaneiro Look at those cities crime rate. You would find them worse than good ol' Napoli.

Is Naples really that bad? I heard it was the most dangerous city in Italy!
Mick on Jan 05, 2017:
Naples never has been a safe city, if you just happen to look at someone in the eye they may react with: "the f*** you looking at". Also never get on the bus and watch out for shootings that may occur in the " Forcella " quarter. Never wear something of valuable. Avoid lonely streets.
