I feel like on the gold coast going at night that there is a lot of bad people out and they might kidnap you and I agree with Citizen.

The homelessness in the gold coast is slowly climbing and I am constantly worried about corruption in the council system the most important thing we should be focusing on is crime.

I’ve heard Palm Beach is rising in crime, is this true?

Like most places commonsense one doesn't get about at night anywhere, lock Ur homes even lock doors during the day, better safe than sorry,drugs/ALC are abused any most places but due to the 24 7 party precinct the climate & beaches, tourist attractions, the transient population bring their issues, like Bali they think surfers is a place to get messy, get wasted & do some stupid things.southport is underfunded, plenty of police there don't know what they do at night, asleep?.there's a lot of corrupt ppl with big money on the coast,go to the casino on Thur,Frid Saturday night,s it's wall to wall with dubious characters.the weather is usually good, the country side hills, beaches are beautiful,it's a bit of a rat race now,it was a country town by the beach in the late 70,s.there were some good clubs like Bombay Rock in surfers & the playroom at palm beach, hosted all the old Aussie bands, cheisl, angels,INXS,oils etc.it was great growing up here in the 80,s & early 90,s now it's a money grabbing joint, selling beach side places with rising sea levels,so every time a storm surge comes the Beach's are going.

First of all, I have lived at the Gold Coast my whole life and nothing has ever happened. There have been no crimes to close and there has been no car thefts. Most people are friendly and kind. By the way Paul, not everyone are brogans. Most people aren't so before you judge, come to the Gold Coast yourself and realize that your statement is incorrect and unneeded.

I have lived on Gold Coast for some 25 years, have have had a very peaceful safe and happy times here except for of late had a man standing out side my bedroom window, for an 80year old it scared and ruffled my feathers, but I got it all under control with my safety network, I have in place, this guy was obviously out of his brain on ice, the drug problem on the Goldie must be addressed....life is for living, and to be enjoyed..It’s a choice we all have, there’s 2roads to be taken, the good and enjoyable one or the bad and destructive one, the choice is entirely yours don’t waste it, signing off, smiley on the Goldie......

Depends where you go. The Northern suburbs are filled with criminals and druggies. Generally a weird and insane place that time forgot. Maybe all the bogans than can't afford Brisbane fell down there. Rudeness and nastiness abounds as well and drug and alcohol fuelled rage and violence. The so called "CBD" Southport is depressing, horrid and to be avoided at night. The Southern and vastly more expensive areas are more chill if not perfect, Coolangatta, Burleigh, Tweed etc. They are actually kind of civilised.

I'm soon to be leaving Gold Coast but never really had an issue. I've known of some people's places being walked into but only when they leave the door/gate wide open. Know of cars being stolen from suburbs like Robina. I lived around Surfers and Southport, been black out drunk the first few years. Lost my keys and phone a number of times but my own fault and never had any other issues. Surfers is more loud/obnoxious in tourist seasons than dangerous. Witnessed a handful of domestics through my time here, but they can be anywhere. Southport can feel a bit shady at times, but everybody is just trying to get by and you rarely get approached.

No fights, no theft, maybe I'm just lucky. I was thrown down some stairs by a bouncer once, that was the worst of it. I'm not tough and still no big deal (for a guy at least). Maybe being from Wollongong has changed my perception....

I've lived in the Gold coast for 28 years. Most crime happens in Surfers Paradise where all the partying is, but even then, only late at night when youths wander around drunk. Also down in the southern parts, near the airport. In many other suburbs the crime is very low.
Charlie on Jun 20, 2018:
I have lived on the GC all my life, and as long as you don't walk around alone at dark (especially around bars) and avoid surfers paradise at night (mostly during schoolies) you'll be good :)
Tim on Nov 01, 2017:
I have lived here for 20 years, crime is very low but the perception might be higher due to it being a drunken party town. If you stay away from Surfers Paradise at night then you should have no problems
