I think that some comments are non-sense. I live in Prague the fifth year now and it is one of the safest "bigger" cities, similar to Munich or Vienna. As a capital city, there could be some smaller problems with homeless people or drugs. Sometimes rude and drunk turists are problematic. Other cities in Czech Republic are even safer.

I read a lot of nonsense in the comments here, omg.

Lived in Prague for years, and it's a pretty safe place compared to most other countries.

People that are saying its not safe probably talking about different Prague. The worst thing you can encounter here as a tourist is pickpocketing (as in every big city), being asked for change or cigs by homeless (as in every big city) and the worst may be fights, im Czech and i only got beaten up once and that was because my own stupidity, i have seen more fights but those were always provoked. Minimal chance somebody will just have a go at you for no reason, and again, this can happen anywhere. I live here 14 years and i was always hanging out around the so called " dangerous " places, i have never feel threathened at all nor my friends.

Been in Prague on a business trip. Snorted some speed with two Ukrainians in a nightclub, then bought some coke and weed from black guys on the street. My colleague also banged a couple of hookers, was very positive experience, as he described it. Overall, very friendly and open city, have been walking with my colleague during the night (and we are just a couple of IT dorks) abd have never felt in danger. So, if you want to 420 and chill, go here!

Is not safe at all.
I have seen lot a blood and fights in the Prague, even Police can be very brutal.
Especially metro(subway) and city center is bad.
Avoid fighting in metro if possible, because you can end up on rails crushed by train.

@Vanessa: Pro tip: STOP LEAVING YOUR BELONGINGS NEXT TIME!

@Jsuit: Maybe next time lay off the alcohol and use your brain for a change.

@thunder: Nice fairy tail story. NOT! How about you TRY and live in Detroit and see if its anywhere safer than Prague, I dare you.

@Dan: And San Francisco is anywhere cleaner? Something tells me you've either never visited Prague or interacted with the wrong people, which in this case, is your own fault. Plus, Prague is cleaner, San Francisco is not. Unlike Prague, San Francisco has WAY too many filth-ridden people who are also homeless. And SF cops arrested them instead of helping them. The American Dream is a total farce, just like your comment.

@tourist: Sucks for you if you didn't use common sense. I'll take Prague over New York City any day.
