I completely agree with Jack Soule who commented in 2017! From its high reputation as a travel destination, I expected better experiences in Cuenca. Yes, architecture is beautiful and very photogenic, but I can’t stand the air and noise pollution here. I feel very unhealthy walking around this town, inhaling car exhaust constantly even inside the restaurants which usually are open to the streets. I find this town very stressful to be in. They definitely need to make some “pedestrian only” zones or have some “car free” time!!

Sooner the city fathers realize that Cuenca is an unhealthy place to walk and shop, the sooner they will disignate certain streets "pedestrian only" and ban the stinking diesel buses and trucks from downtown. I pity Cuencanos who have to work downtown in centro historico everyday! Need a plan!!
