Very safe city. Far safer than any big city in the UK.
Just avoid certain neighborhood. Any places that are worth hanging out around are safe

Compared to other big cities of France like Montpelier Marseille and paris, Toulouse is on the safest spots. Just beware at nigh from shady people and ghetto style neighborhood and you're 90% safe

@Pablo: Yeah, don't worry, the city is nice and it's worth visiting. Just avoid those neighbourhoods I said on my previous post (which for the most part are quite far from the city center and all points of interest) and there will be no problem, or at least no more than on any regular modern city.

I've been living and working in Toulouse for almost 5 years now and, while far from a perfect city, it's very welcoming and I don't regret at all having moved here. I wouldn't say there's no crime here because that would be a lie: there is crime in Toulouse and it's not minor at all. That said, I can also assure that it is a very safe city at the same time. Why? Because that crime is pretty much exclusive to a few areas.
There are some areas that everyone should avoid, because they're pretty dangerous (theft and assault, shootings, drug dealing in plain sight... pretty serious), but they're very localised in a few neighbourhoods (Mirail, Izards, La Gloire, Empalot, Arnaud Bernard). If you avoid setting foot in those areas (and why would you anyway, there's absolutely nothing of interest in there aside from Arnaud Bernard, which is not THAT bad compared to the others), you'll hardly ever have a problem anywhere else in the city, day or night. Neither me nor anyone of my friends and work partners have ever had an issue in all these years.
