I don't get how even with the high population, the crime rates are low?

Visited 5 times.
Very, very safe -about as safe as you can get for a big city.
Not saying there's no crime, but so long as you are not a total idiot, you will be completely fine.

Tokyo is paradise for one and all! Most of these comments are ridiculous! When Western cities like Portland, London and San francisco are burning due to riots and Covid has hit the UK, continental Europe(Paris to Stockholm) and with Neo nazis and street gangs roaming the streets of western Europe/American cities intimidating people, robbing and raping as they please, homeless everywhere across Europe, Australia and Americas etc, Japan alone stands as a beacon of hope and positivity amongst civilizations. All people, including foreign women and people of color are extremely safe in Tokyo or anywhere else in Japan. Most of these commentators are probably angry whites who have'nt travelled beyond their trailer parks/flea infested shitties(cities?)

Safe, but women should just stay as far away from the subway as possible during rush hour. Groping is very common.

Tokyo is so safe that people have nothing else to write but silly things

The government actually created rommba for lazy people who don't want to vacuum so they can map out their house and eliminate them.If you have a Roomba then the government already knows where you live, what you identify as, your name, your gender, your phone model, your fetishes and when you sleep. He knows your local supermarket and how much you spend on groceries when when you do shopping. He knows what shoes wear because rommba has high sensing devices that can detect anything as said in their advertisement. He also knows that you listen to despacito on loop even though you try to hide it. To conclude, Roombas are actually created by the government to eliminate people who can't vacuum, so you should just sell it to your neighbour or on Gumtree. Or you can give it to me

I really must say, Japan has changed a lot over the last 40 years. I remember I used to be able get a hooker for 20 bucks but not in this day and age!

No longer safe as it used to be. Insults and hate speech becoming a popular trend

Compared to most other major cities, Tokyo is very safe.
There are of course crimes in the city like any city.
I'm a woman and I often walk around in the late evenings and nights in central Tokyo in crowded and uncrowded area and I've rarely felt I need to look over my shoulder. I even visited and small empty park at night and was okay!
I think areas like Kinshicho, Shinjuku and Shibuya have a lot of activity as night so if you're alone, drunk and not aware of your surrounding very late into the night, then yes, it can be dangerous. However, most areas are very safe.

me and me grandson once went to the city of life called japan. He ended up carking it back in the old town but i stepped into what i thought was a restaurant turned out to be cat store. it was filled to the brim with these little fellows and they were free. Sadly i saw some of these smallies tied around the neck meowing for food outside the store. made me heart cry that moment so i knew i had to take her home. Quite a cute one actually. when i was taking it down the road, many of the citizens looked at me while i just smiled. dont know why tho because i thought this was normal. When i got home she asked me what we are going to get for dinner.i told her we are going back to the yee old town and she got on her feet took off the cat ears and tore off her clothes. i got a pretty new feeling that day and as a 78 year old man today i will never feel it again. Turns out they dont sell humans in Japan and they give good smooches on the cheeks. i mean both cheeks.

@Ill buy for $5 a piece, sorry but the council told me to put down my business because I was scamming people and it might make Africa lose visitors. Maybe comeback in 12938479238749287 years, I'll come up with a bargain for special customers and friends. Note that I don't have any friends, yet. They're all jealous of my extravagant air freshners.

@Mah poop, are you offering those air fresheners for sale? They sound *stunning*
on Feb 27, 2018:
Agree with #JjXM,in some part of the city, you'd better keep vigilant.
JjXM on Feb 16, 2018:
It's not as safe as people say. Lots of freaks follow you around and stalk you, specially if you are good looking and white. I had a guy following me with a camera.

Many foreign and japanese girls have been found dead with dismembered bodies in rivers and apartments, the media wont show you this because they want japan to be perceived as a safe country. If you have lived there and follow the news, you'll see that it isnt.

The men can act violently if you dont do what they want in a relationship.

I had a poop a few seconds ago and wanted to watch some funny videos and I accidentally ended up on THIS website. I took a look at this website and realised how neat it was, even neater than my most fashionable toilet I had placed in my living room in case I need to go number 2. Well I never really bothered to clean me bum bum or flush the toilet, but whenever the house stinks I would blame the dog. A few days ago, a house inspector came over to my house to inspect it, and when I offered them a free air freshener that was exclusively brown shaped in a sausage shape, he said "no thank you" and walked off to the house next door. Let me tell you, the longest I have ever had a neighbour for was probably a month or so, mainly because they've been filing complaints about me to the police about my air fresheners. The police then gave me something called a 'fine' and so I offered him an air freshener, and a few seconds later, he abruptly fell onto the floor, so I just assumed that he liked the air fresheners too much and decided to pass out. So I didn't really bother to call the first aid van that drives to my neighbours house every week.
Cam on Oct 26, 2017:
Very safe. I've never felt the least bit worried about violent crime or property crime here. No drug issues, or issues with panhandlers or the like.
