ADDITION: The people are super kind and hospitable. I have had several times that I was looking for a place and was asking for directions. Instead, of showing me directions the people actually accompanied me to the place.

EDIT: I have lived in Port Moresby now for a year. As a man I feel comfortable walking around on my own during day. I wouldn't recommend walking around alone for a white woman. In a group is fine. In general, don't walk around at night.
I got my phone stolen once, but that was because of own stupidity. Was checking my email at the back of our pick-up and at a traffic light someone grabbed my phone... Many opportunists. So be wise. But I feel safe. People won't be intending to harm you, some people are just after your belongings (which are replaceable).

I went to port Moresby for a holiday and it was great, all these kind locals selling beautiful handmade knifes. I love the dark red paint on the blades, it was quit artistic.

I wouldn't live there. there is way too much crime and low safety. I was thinking of going, but now I am not sure.
