Hi, some of the cost are difficult to tell because
a. the products are not available e.g. local cheese, there is no dairy production in PNG
b. not clear what product it meant, for example milk prices provided from others seems to be for long life milk, however in many countries people drink fresh milk which cost in Port Moresby 13K instead the indicated 6 K.
c. same for the jeans for example, you write "like Levis 501", which you most probably not get and if yes than it is even more expensive than in Australia because it is imported from there. So most people compare most probably with cheap Chinese quality jeans
d. as mentioned there is nothing like Mc Donald, there is Big Rooster selling chicken but quality is so much lower and expats are not going there
e. same for all the grocery things, most of them are imported from Australia which is already an expensive country as well as often 2nd grade is imported
f. major issue is rent, which is most probably the highest cost for expats. The comparison of rent for inner city and outer city is not helping expats and also dilutes the comparison with other cities. Due to security reasons most of the expats do not have a big choice and their companies restrict them to stay in inner city where for example rent can be for a 3 bedroom apartment 12,000 USD per month and it is not fancy compared to HongKong, Singapore or New York
g. one major factor is not included, cost of security
h. also somehow holiday/international travel cost is not considered, since there are not many airlines flying to Port Moresby, flight charges are very high and due to the difficult environment you need to take often a break and get out

For most of the expats Port Moresby is a Hardship Place providing higher salaries but you cannot enjoy the money as in other cosmopolitan cities.
