Oxford is one of those places that in general is VERY safe, especially if you are two people or out at daylight.

During night-time it still stays safe, but the possibility of being bothered by some idiot, assaulted and/or robbed is a strong wild-card.
To explain: There are many foreign wealthy students in this city, but if you can't afford the taxis you are suddenly exposed to corners that never seem dangerous in any way - and most of the times they aren't, but when you are out of bad luck you feel like in a criminial 3rd world country where Pakis are stomping you on the ground in a group of 5-7 people.... I know waaaay safer places to be in the UK/EU/WORLD....

It's a wild card. Combine hundreds of thousands of students and pupils in a place with larger poor districts and you end up with Oxford. Safe the majority of times, but when it gets you it's like being in some underdeveloped country where there is only animals out for your printed paper and goods....

I was assaulted 2 times violently over a span of 4 years. with attempted muggings inbetween.

Bottom line: if you send your kids there to study, it's all fine - just make sure they can afford a cab home after a night out.
