The criminality grew up those days and the shootings too its true, but its still very far from Marseille. Unlike Marseille, it remains very superficial. There is delinquency, but it's limited to certain neighborhoods; there are shootings, but not every day. There are small gangs, but they're quite disorganized; there are weapons, but very rarely high-caliber ones. However, yes, the crime rate is much higher than before , but Grenoble isn't Marseille, which has entire no-go zones controlled by paramilitary gangs with heavy weapons. I can understand why Grenoble might be called "Little Marseille," but that's more anecdotal than concrete. As in any city, just be careful where you go and who you associate with, and everything will be fine :)

As a french person i don’t think Grenoble is as crime ridden as the other cities, but because local government had the really good idea of putting hoods/projects in the middle of the city, when crime happen every civilian sees it. Which impacts this rating
This city is not safe on Jun 08, 2025:
If your coming to live here please don’t it’s bad, any place there is pickpocket so be careful close your purse backpack or whatever and hide your phone in your purse or wherever they can’t pickpocket not only that because there is a lot of fights, there is deaths, every day and night firework, every night car burning, even schools are not safe there is also alot of fighting, some schools have people with knife in their pocket, in the city there are drug dealers and more things

I lived in this city for a year now and a lot of things happened like this year in February someone launched a grenade to a bar, in December 2024 someone launched a firework on a building, I think the center of Grenoble is safer, but before going anywhere else check if it’s dangerous or not, there can be pickpocket, and almost every night there’s a car burning.

Don't stop for lunch by the highway in Grenoble. Our car was broken into and all luggage stolen. Police were not helpful at all. I feel lucky that we did not arrive while this vandalism took place because they probably would have hurt us. Windows were smashed. Our car was just out of sight in the parking lot. Bad place.

i lived in grenoble for years. extra center is OK, but be carrefull of pick pocket. But a lot of areas around the center are VERY dangerous...
don't go anywhere in grenoble without checking if it's safe.
the mountains around the city are nice. the city itself, not.
