Generally Fethiye is a very peaceful area. In spite of the current post-coup state of emergency being in place there is not an unusually high Police presence nor any sense of tension. But visitors from other countries need to recognise certain cultural and constitutional responsibilities in the indigenous population that emanate from religious values. Relationships between people, local to visiting is based upon trust and a desire to offer help, some people may find this intrusive, but accepting this is usually mutually beneficial. Europeans and Turkish people generally live together very well around Fethiye in popular districts such as Calis, Ovacik, Hisaronu and Uzumlu. Overall people are usually respectful, kind and polite. Young people will give up seats on the buses for women and the elderly, and be helpful in other ways, and this demonstrates a society that lives by innate values.
