Dar- es - salam is quite safe and peaceful. Crime happens every where on earth. All we need to do is be safe and remain alert. Why to believe on stranger if you are grown up. In whole I like this place and would like to work here for long.

We just had our home broken into and a lot of items were stolen. It is very unsafe to walk alone at night in Dar Es Salaam's City Center and on the Msasani Peninsula. Lots of people walk for exercise in the early morning. I have lived here a little more than seven months and during that time an American was stabbed on the street while thieves were trying to steal his girlfriend's purse (he died); our house was robbed; a friend's son was accosted by men while he was walking on a street and when he didn't have anything to give them, they cut him badly with a broken bottle; a friend was riding his bicycle during daylight hours and a car came by and the occupants grab the backpack he was wearing, knocking him off of his bike and stole everything he had, including the bike; a colleague was walking alone at night and a car's occupants grabbed his backback as the car continued driving, dragging him along! (he recovered); a nearby vegetable market was being robbed and the police shot the perpetrator; and this is just what I have heard of!

Is it safe to carry camera while walking around the Dar Es Salaam for Indian tourists and also let me know about the precautions we need to take in Das Es Salaam.

It,s clear that,D'salaam is the worst city in term of safety. There are enomous gangs;panya road, thugs, pickpockets, rapers,et al,which make so difficult for residents to manipulate there natural and artificial resorces-ocean,factories and others of the like-that if not vast rate of crimes, would bring about much more development and positive prestigies than it has today.

Another type of crime existing in D'salaam is that of corruption-based evil crime which gives priveledges to hte haves few. Corupt leaders are living in this city especially those who are holding ministerial posts and MPs.

Dar es Salaam to anybody who did not grow up here, just like most cities, will never be a safe place. Seriously, You go to a foreign country and you walk alone at night and you see very clearly that most streets are dark and no that many people walk around. Of course you will get robbed!

Here is an idea, make reservation and have the hotel arrange you transportation from their hotel to their hotel. A little expensive but 100% safe. You want to go into town, take a walk at night or whatever, why not ASK the people at the hotel for advice. I was born, raised and still reside in Dar es Salaam but even I am not stupid enough to walk alone in some streets at night. Every city has these places.

For those coming to work in Dar es Salaam, we have lots of private security companies, so instead of hiring a Maasai, why not hire them? And for God's sake, get your stuffs insured!

Otherwise, Dar es Salaam is beautiful. And that racism stat, I honestly laughed at that!

Do not trust taxi drivers in Dar Es Salaam. He drove us to a dark alley and had people waiting for us who robbed us at knife point of all our valuables and drove around with us making cash withdrawals at several atms. Take a dalla dalla. Less convenient but much safer

I and my wife were kind of express kidnapped and we were robbed of all our cash money and other valuables. As tourists this happened soon after our arrival in Dar. We had to fly home to Europe on the spot.

According to my understanding of this world I can give one or more examples of How to tackles any type of crime,
1)for muderous, the only way is to kill them in order to make everybody fear to kill.
2)for theft of car, large amount of money, home buglers, robbers of big money and causing injury and anyone who use gun/knife/wood bar and any other serious should their hand chopped in order to stop everyone to commit these crimes
3)for the drug dealers should spend 31 years fully.
4)for rape crime. The married should be killed and the unmarried should get 100 lashes 1 year imprisonment.this law must used to prostotute man and woman.
Note,no one can place these laws and other laws in any country in this world other than the goverment and everybody knows that it's responsibility to secure every individual citizen by failing to so the government has committed crime to the victim/s of crime,so now every body knows that all crimes are committed by the government,so if this is the reality the government should be changed in a proper way to secure every pour and rich citizen,if the government ignore the security of citizens the war will raise soon because every action has got reaction because no one can tolerate any crime against him or her everyone fight being right,l have many ideas of tackling almost all crime but first I need to see these few laws implimeted

Dar es salaam has become a hell place to live. Most of the city residents are worried what next is going to happen. The Police and Security must be alerted.
#Hatari dot com on Jul 22, 2013 :
we have to report these matters to the top police officials so that action can be taken. police are given patrol vehicles for the safety of residents.

Crime rate rises in Ramadhan time in Dar es Salaam Tanzania. But surprising no local media is showing any news of ancients that happening the past two weeks. This is not the first time that the media have done this but in the past also when crime rate rises sharply in a period of weeks and then comes down. People getting shot and business getting robbed for money.

Recent events

A well known business man owner of home shopping centre was thrown acid on his face by a person on a bike. Due this incident he has lost eye sight in one of his eye. Was rushed to Trauma hospital and now has been rushed to South Africa for further treatment.

Yesterday night
An Indian family was shot and in the same time a taxi driver was shot at Kariakoo.

In the evening robbers hijacked a Toyota Noah near Haidery Plaza.

Last week
A new Toyota Prado with a Indian family was hijacked by robbers on the. DTV roundabout in city centre at gun point. The front driver and body guard were forced to come out of the car. The hijackers took of with the car along with family at the back and were dropped at Msimbazi area and took off with the car.

Shia community has increased security near there mosque as some incidents had happen in the area.

Please help us in prevailing the true facts happening to our people especially to the Indian and Arab community. But the local government and the police are doing nothing.

Tanzania has become a very highly dangerous place to live governed by a corrupted government. We are worried that the police and army officials are involved. Because these incidents happen in short time and the suddenly calm down. Also it is not easy for people to get arms here therefor where are these robbers and hijackers are getting there's from??

In 12 months I have been robbed at knife point, had small items stolen from my house, attempted robbery and been in a major car accident owing the awful car driving in Dar. Never had this anywhere else.
