I have spent a lot of time in central Bremerton, during the day and at all hours of the night as a resident, pedestrian, and rideshare driver. I have never had an incident, never had to call the police, never witnessed a crime. I have not heard stories of attacks, muggings, or armed robbery from my friends who live and work downtown either. Drugs are a problem, homelessness is a problem (but nowhere near what you will see in Seattle or larger cities). Some neighborhoods are older or run down. I would be on higher alert than if I were walking around a wealthy suburb or something like that, but it is not a scary place to me. I don't worry about walking with my phone out, for example. It is a small, blue-collar city and Seattle exurb built around a Naval shipyard. The numbers paint a scary picture that is, in my opinion, unjustified.
