I've been going to Boco Chica for over 15 years. I first went when there and stayed at a Hilton (now the Hamaca). The hotel encouraged people to walk the main street day or night (until a reasonable hour) to get the flavor of this small village. The only drawback at night is encountering the street walkers. On the beautiful beach, I admit the vendors casn be a nuisance, too, but since it's the same ones who walk back and forth, they quickly learn you're not interested. Of course in any poor country, you're smart if you don't flash your bling and other jewelry and are aware of your surroundings. I am a New Yorker and for years lived in Manhattan. I practiced the same caution there, living on the upper West Side. Boca Chica, and especially the beach, is a favorite place for me. As a retired man, I travel around a great deal--four or five international trips in the year. I just know when I go to Boca Chica, I'm not going to get the same service and comfort as when I stay at a Marriott in Aruba, St. Maarten, or Cancun. (And speaking of Cancun, I never go out at night there either.) As far as cabs, ask the price before you get in the vehicle, and then pay in cash.

Taxis around ole full of thieves, should be 200 pesos to go from ole to anywhere in Boca chica but when I handed driver 500 pesos and said change he just drive off. Also fyi eps in andres don't use debit card, guy there told me debit card won't work so I paid cash, later found eps charge almost 30 dollars .and won't do anything about it, if you use them, pay cash only
