In Belo Horizonte everything depends where you are. There’s a “green zone” stretching from the south-central zone to the southwest of the city, where you’re mostly safe anytime. But also there’s a very large and wide poverty belt all around the sparsely prosperous areas in the city, not for tourist and ousiders, where you should be more cautious. If you are assaulted you need to be cautious when considering the worthwhileness of report to the police, because they’re prone to be harsh and dismissive towards crime victims lacking some form of material evidence.
