Hi everyone, seeking advice. I am a licensed Chiropracor (texas), my wife, 11 year old boy and I are extremely serious about moving there and setting up a practice. And yes, full time, I am bilingual, any thoughts?

This prices are an average and of course if it is your first time in Puerto Vallarta you can make mistakes.
About the rent prices if you want to live in a nice place prices are higher.

I'm single and looking for a place in bucerias near the beach. My budget is around 500 USD for rent for a small, decent place. Is this realistic and any suggestions how how to find a place. The vacation condos and boutique hotels are of course very expensive and I'm looking for something possibly long term. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I'm thinking of taking time off and going down to PV for about a year. I know enough Spanish
to get by with the basics, but starting to brush up. I have a pension of $3000.00 after taxes, so
I'm sure that'll be sufficient to get by. If any OEF vets spent time down there, please feel free
to respond to email or this site just so I can get your take on it. Thanks...

Jason Seeberger, I moved down here recently, but have been coming for 30 years. I'm still learning, but am willing to help you out!

Hey Bill (6/18/14), first, sorry about your injury and thank you for your service. I'm a vet too. I'm thinking of living in PV. I've visited 4 times with my MX wife and her 4 girls. My spanish is good (I only knew 3 words when I moved from Chicago to E.P. - tacos, burritos y enchiladas. I'm alone now and want to live in a spacious 1 BR somewhere around Uruguay (I think), higher up with a view. I don't need to be with gringos so a quiet MX neighborhood is desired (quiet? in MX?) I don't want a dump and I'm picky about things but I lived in Juarez for 5 1/2 yrs. I'm still self employed but do business over the telephone and Internet (100 mbps) with clients in USA and other places in the world. I want to slow down and get off the phone. The only real concern is finding suitable living facilities. I can detail more what I need on a later post. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I lived in PV for 7 years. I would suggest you take a 6-8 month trip and make sure PV is where u wanna be. I was in the golf industry and spent a lot of time with retirees, both local and international. It was quite common for a member of my Golf Club to decide, after 6-8 months, that Mexico just wasnt for them. I STRONGLY suggest that you have at least a 50-60% profeciency in Spanish and are willing to take classes and become comfortable conversing/reading Spanish. 90% of the people who only lasted 4 months to a year did not bother to learn Spanish. PV is a wonderful town and the area is just beautiful. The true treasure, however, is the local people. Im from a small town in SW Virginia and spoke 0 Spanish when I first arrived in Mexico. I made it my business to learn Spanish and it made my time there special. Like a dumb azz I went back in the Military after 9-11 and was injured in Afghanistan. I hope to soon be back on the beaches of PV! Good Luck, keep an open mind and leave your watch at home, lol.
