The beggars you see around Pereira are following you around but you don't know it.Theres very few Americans living in Pereira for good reasons because we become targets. I'm a retired American getting my social security retirement pension. I thought the same you did.Don't make the same mistake as I did. These three posts from me.Hope my honesty helped you be safe if you decide to move to Pereira.

Robbed at gunpoint three times and at knife-point twice.Colombia taxes retirement pensions from 19% to 44% after living in Colombia for 5 years annually.Robbed during the daytime in supposed good area's.

Just got back from Pereira the prices here seem to be very accurate as far as crime goes I did not see any, perhaps the person that says that crime is very high and organized saw something that I didn't. It could be a little cleaner, and too many beggars all over the city this may due to poverty level in the city.
I am planning on moving to Pereira because of the low cost of living and I am social security and my benefits go further than in main land USA.
Here I can afford a nice apartment for about $400. a month versus $12.00 in Orlando

Pereira isn't even worth a visit, truth be known.Very high crime and much of it organized crime from what I saw during my brief visit there, even staying in the nicest area. The prices here are 50% more than listed.Pereira is way over rated, not worthy of a visit.
