Median Monthly Disposable Salary (After Tax)

They are asking for the "MEDIAN" salary (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Median) not the "MEAN" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arithmetic_mean). They are very different and this is causing confusion.

The median is the most common salary in a country/city, which is the most useful data for us. The mean is the average. The bigger the economic differences in a country/city, the higher the mean and they less realistic it's for expats/immigrants-to-be.

The mean in France is what it says in the data above as for now: 2,300 EUR/month, but it's not the realistic salary. Most people earn (median) 1,653 EUR/month. (source 2011: http://www.sudouest.fr/2011/11/01/1-653-euros-de-salaire-moyen-en-france-le-fosse-s-est-agrandi-542381-705.php)
