Lethbridge is a great city that is growing with affordable housing and a much better standard of living than Calgary/Edmonton. It is a medium sized city, 3rd largest in Alberta, about 100,000 in the city and 300,000 including surrounding areas. It's very windy at times, but the wind brings the nice weather with it, even in the middle of winter. Overall it's a well planned out city and very easy to get around, with no crazy traffic like the bigger cities. You can get to and from work within 20 minutes. It's very scenic with the bridge and lots of hiking/bike paths through the coulees. The city has a large retirement community and also students from the local University and College, but it also great for families. New amenities are being added all the time, such as the new skate park, large outdoor water park, rec centres etc. For housing, I recommend the west side of Lethbridge. It's the newer side of the city with a lot of new development going on - new homes, schools, shopping plazas etc. The wages are obviously lower than the bigger cities, but it is also more affordable living here and the minimum wage will be increasing. The location is only an hour to the U.S for shopping, cheaper flights within U.S. It's a couple of hours to Calgary if you are looking for bigger city amenities. Some nearby places to see/hike/ski: Waterton, Fernie, Castle Mountain, Banff, Lake Louise, Whitefish Montana, Glacier Park. In the summertime, there is a large farmers market at exhibition park for local foods. The recently expanded Enmax centre is great for hockey and entertainment with many popular bands/musicians playing there. For medical care, Lethbridge hospital has recently been expanded and renovated with reasonable Emergency waiting times - usually 15 - 20 minutes. In my opinion, it's a hidden gem of a city!

Lethbridge... What a polluted dive. Just smell the air or look at any of the lakes in the area.
Nice place for shut-ins. Not inexpensive by any means.

July 2015

It costs a lot more than 740 a month for a single apartment unless you want to live in a bed bug emporium or higher crime neighborhood.(See for yourself on Kijiji)The bread I buy was $2.50 a month ago and was $ 4.07 today, July 13, 2015 All food prices are rapidly increasing. I have been tracking receipts for six years and constantly shop sales. I can't afford to eat at restaurants so I don't.
