Wages for most people is less than this, most people are on minimum wage or slightly more, that's 1'200 a month minus taxes and NI so many people are taking 8-900 per month, so with the high cost of living eats most of that up. Motor insurance, council tax and utilities are all high. Most people in Yorkshire are living paycheck to paycheck. Don't believe the rubbish the British government claim. Also there is not enough jobs for all the people, so people are fighting for even a minimum wage job. It sucks here, that's why i emigrated.

Some of the prices on this page are absurdly high. Most locals get sandwiches from takeaway shops (for about £3-£4) and eat outside. The most popular restaurants in Leeds are chains, which charge about £5-£6 for a meal (see Wetherspoons website, for example). I can't comment on mid-range restaurants because I don't eat there. Also, most supermarkets sell 800g bread loaves for 55p (see Asda, Sainsburys, and Tesco websites).

Leeds is a great city to work and live in, with amazing country sides all within an hours drive.

With great shopping centres, and many leisure centres I'm sure you find that there are lots to do in your free time.

Living expenses is much cheaper than the South and for sure you will get a lot more out of GBP 48k than you would down South.

As an expat who left the UK, in any country I work in I have to make sure I have to have a sponsor who provides me with health care and ensures i have a place to live.

Why doesn't the UK start this? Use previous tax returns to depict how much Free health care a person is entitled to, any migrants would have to show proof of health insurance prior to entering the country.
