In Upper Silesia Katowice and Gliwice are the best to live. But if you no need to live in Silesia agglomeration I recommend Bielsko-Biala or Opole.

#KK, so what cities would you recommend in Poland? From pics & other research, Katowice seems to have a lot of beautiful parks and nature trails, etc surrounding the city, a growing economy, close to mountains, cultural events, sports centers, etc.

@J Campbell
It would be doable anywhere in Poland for that kind of money, I'm not sure why you chose Katowice tho, wouldn't it be better to find a place with a cleaner air?

Hi, I retired last year and am receiving $1,400 USD a month for S.S. and am very interested in Poland to live.
From my research so far, Katowice looks perfect on paper, and I would love to spend some time there to make sure it's a good fit for me. But that could be a moot point if I can't afford it. I'm a young 62, single, and in good health, so,could someone please advise, would $1,400 USD a month be doable to live on in Katowice, including rent, utilities, food and all expenses? Any info would be appreciated! Thanks!

Preschool 3500 zł monthly?? Primary School 75000zł yearly?? :)) Must be another one Katowice on Earth, not this one where I live...:) To Wanie M - 15k zł it is a lot of money. As you see mid salary is about 3k. Medications are not very expensive. For family health care you need insurance of course.
Wanie M on Mar 25, 2017:
Hello there,

I am planning to move to Katowice with my husband and 3 kids age 6y, 4y and 2y.

Could we live comfortably with 15k zl per month as childcare and primary school fees are quite expensive. If there is an option for a nanny, how much does she normally charge?

How about health care and medication? Let say flu, fever and cough. How much the hospital/clinic are charging?

>> What is cost of living price in Poland Katowice. How much expenditure a normal man required monthly on poland apartment, food, transport etc...Can any one help me. I am planning to join one IT company in poland.

I see it was a long time ago, however, maybe someone else can make a good use of my below comment and answer to your question.

Katowice is a heart of the upper Silesia region. The city agglomeration that Katowice is the center of is the largest in Poland and this part of Europe (over twice as much people lives there as in Warsaw for example).
Prices - more or less they are shown on this page and they are accurate.
Typical salary of a Pole is about 4000 zł in total / gross, what gives more or less 2500 zł - that is e.g. what most of the teachers get. In Katowice it may be bigger especially in IT where depending on your skills salary starts from 3000 zł. I personally would not move here from abroad to get 3000 zł as this is nothing special, but it's really enough to live.
Flat in Katowice - one room with a kitchen and bathroom - starts from about 700 and ends somewhere at 1400 zł in city center with a very good standard (it does not include media like TV, electricity, gas etc.). Flat like that if you want to buy it costs about 90 000 - 160 000 zł
Two rooms starts from about 1000 zł ends at 1800 (starts from 120 000 when you want to buy it).
Gasoline at the moment is about (even less then) 5 zł/l.

Transport - as shown above - when you're not disabled nor student - one way ticket (train, tram or bus, there is no such thing as Metro here) in the city and region costs about 4 zł. Monthly that is a cost about 150 zł.

Meals - you can buy a lunch at a cheap restaurant or canteen for about 10-15 zl, the same with fast foods (kebabs, pizza slices, lunch boxes, soups etc.). Normal visit at a restaurant is about 25-45 zł for a meal.
Sushi in Katowice is a cost about 60-100 zł.

To sum up:
You can live for 2000 zł and that's a minimum,
3000 is something where you can eat at restaurants, have a car and sometimes visit a pub. This is something where junior IT positions starts as well.
4000-5000 is good and this is typical for not junior IT positions. Keep in mind this is somithing what about 5% of Polish population has ;)
above 5000 starts senior positions in IT. You can get max 8000 there.
Above 8000 - highly qualified and experienced senior principal position.

That is only my opinion and I hope it helped.
