If you compare to Philippes per exemple who was cheaper than VN ,now in just 2 years it become expansive. so in Vn inlfation is quiet stable, for renting is the most cheap in all Asia, exclude West asia.

Of course all price gone up each year but less than other world countries, here with 1000$ i live a simple confortable life while in Philippines or even Laos will be LIMIT.

too much tourist thats sure and noise, for the one who want quiet place go to mountain.

Also beware of tourist trap/scam that make your experience more expansive and annoying, but if u wear simple and stay with local life is very cheap and food delicious.

Hanoi is the most advertised place in Vietnam. Many foreigners own companies huge high rise apartment buildings.Rents start at 20,000,000 per month for a one bedroom one bath apartment up to 100,000,000 vnd for larger apartments.Ho Chi Minh used to be much cheaper but it's quickly catching up with Hanoi.Foreign investments are the reasons why it's become unaffordable in general for both cities.

I am surprised by how expensive fruits and other food is in Vietnam, its on par with the most developed countries in Europe. How are people surviving in Vietnam with those low salaries? In China its even worse from what I can see on Numbeo (food is even more expensive in China than Europe).

If anyone is thinking about saving money, I would recommend working in Europe over Vietnam.....

As a traveling blogger I couldn't recommend visiting Hanoi for this reason. Europeans are seen as ATMS not some of the time but most of the time.Air b&b prices will be atleast twice as much.Street food or restaurant food the same plus anything else you buy will be high priced, there's no avoiding it so be prepared.

Hello there! I'm a web developer living in Vietnam. Most local people make 6 or 7 million dong, I'm making 15 million because developers and foreigners are on demand. Before this, I worked as an English teacher earning 500k per hour, so in a week or two I made enough money for the whole month.

Local people live in rooms that cost 2 or 3 million tops. But they are very basic, perhaps only a bed and a toilet. I wanted something with my own kitchen, bed and tv so I pay 4.5 million plus bills, for a total of around 5 million every month.

15 million is a really good salary for Hanoi. For a local I mean. Most English teachers make easily 20 or 30 million. If you are a native English speaker looking for an adventure, come to Hanoi! Finding job as a teacher is super easy (as of 2020).

If you make more than $1000 then you will be definitely fine. I make $600 and I live a local lifestyle (public transportation, visit mostly Vietnamese pubs/restaurants, shop at local markets) and I get to send a third of my salary to my family every month.
