I would also like to know about international school and the fees, since I find it a bit confusing.

Just checked Compass International School Doha.
The yearly school fee for Primary School incl. tuition fee is 68000 QAR (5700 QAR pr month) and Secondary School incl. tuition fee is app 72000 QAR (6000 QAR pr month). Can anyone inform me if this is de correct prices.
This is significant more than informed in the above (35000 QAR pr year / 3000 pr month).

Also does anyone have recommendations for international schools?

Hello all people interested to come to Doha, I've been living in Doha in the past 8 years, if you have any questions about cost of living, your offered salary package and if it will work for you, please feel free to contact me by mail,
One more thing it is relative when it comes to spending, you can live with 3000 QR, and 50,000 might not be enough depending on what lifestyle u are planning, Qatar is the safest country I've lived or visited so far (US, Europe, Middle East, and many Asian countries), house rent is the major expense, I'm managing a company and I'm paying 8,500 QR/month for a 2 bedroom fully furnished apartment in a decent compound with a big club house, gym, swimming pool, etc... Most of the prices mentioned here is reasonable and accurate

Hello all, I have 10 years experience in Retail Store as Operations Analyst and also into new store development and merchandising.

How much salary will I earn in Doha and also where can I get job opportunities in Retail stores in Doha. Please I need suggestions.
#YaBiRad on Jan 13, 2019 :
#DDD-J your calculations are correct, unfortunately.
I am spending 30k a month, not doing extravagant stuff, with a wife and 2 kids.
Been living here since 2008 and things are getting more expensive by the minute.
The new exise tax also will limit your alcohol consumption as all prices for liquor have doubled. Same goes for tobacco products, pork and energy drinks as well as an extra 50% on soda.
Fuel is always cheaper than Europe. Accomodation is a flexible item, depending on the location, so you might get a villa from 10K+ monthly. Public hospitals are almost free. Cars have reasonable pricing, also a flexible item.

#DDD-J on Nov 25, 2018 :

I got what seems to be a great offer for a job in Doha. I would relocate to Doha with my family (wife + 2 kids) from Europe. We are being offered something in the area of 45000QAR/month. I am told the salary is TAX FREE. Coming from Europe, we are accostumed to a western lifestyle with good healthinsurance coverage, a pension scheme... However, considering that rents are high for a 3-4 bedroom flat or compound house (+15000 QAR) and the fact the school is about 10000 QAR for two children monthly plus items like health insurance, pension, semi-regular flights back to Europe, it seems I will have considerable costs to pay.

I am expecting monthly costs to amount to something close to 35k-38k, leaving not very much to put aside for a cold winter day... ;o)

Could someone please tell me that I am wrong in my calculations?

I have 11+ years experience as a peoplesoft and oracle database administrator. I am working for JP Morgan at Columbus,Ohio. My H1B is going to end in anthor 18 months. Shall I go with this offer or wait? how about the job market in gulf countries?

I got an offer of 8000 QAR. Would it be enough with rent for 1 person?

Will I get one bedroom sharing including attached bathroom for 1000QAR in Doha.

If I join in mess system in some coffee shop or restaurant, will my food expenses be below 1000QAR or if I cook vegetarian at room, how much will be cost.

Can any one guide me please

Fitness membership is monthly 300-400 QAR in the GYMs. It might be 200-250 QAR if you register for 3-6-12 months. 5star hotels asks 1000+ QAR
1 egg costs 1 QAR here... Frozen chicken costs 10-20 QAR in the markets... I do not know how many you need for a day therefore you should calculate for yourself.
I allocate 3500 QAR montly for my expenses (excluding transportation and accomodation)
#Kiran Varghese on Aug 05, 2018 :
I have got job at Doha, yet to know about my package, will be getting accomodation and a cook. How much will be my monthly expense for food and Fitness club ? I am fitness lover , follow certain diet such as Eggs and chiken... Wanna know my expense. How much should I get to meet my expenses?
#Anonymous on Jul 05, 2018 :

You will receive 5800 QAR as a net salary and the company will provide you accomodation & transport ??? If this is the case, it might be acceptable i think...

Otherwise, you have to spend 1500-2000 QAR for a bedspace in shared accomodation and 500-1000QAR for transport therefore you will have a 5800 - ( 1500 + 500 ) = 3800 QAR which is approximately 1000 USD.
#Ali on Jul 04, 2018 :
I got offered 1600 dollars as a Physics private high school teacher plus renting + transportation. Is it good salary per.month
#Haydar on Jul 04, 2018 :
I have been living in Qatar since 2012 and my package is 25000 QAR. Now, i am paying 5000 QAR for the accomodation and 1625 QAR for the rent of my car... I spend 3000-3500 for the food & lesiure average... To sum up, 25000 ( 5000 + 1625 + 3500 ) = 15 000 QAR i can save. Dolar/riyal exchange rate is fixed, it is 1 USD = 3.65 QAR

Now i want to write my comments for the prices which i think that they are wrong:
1)Restaurant prices seems acceptable, i visit all kinds of restaurants ( cheap indian, turkish, fastfoods and fine dining restaurant)
2)Market prices seems also acceptable but only beer prices are high. Beer is sold in Qatar at only QDC Qatar distribution center and one bottle/can beer cost 8-10 QAR. I do not smoke therefore i can not comment for cigarette.
3)I have a rent a car so i pay 1625 QAR per month (mazda3)...I fill the depot 4 times..Fuel has been increasing slightly every month last 2 years... One depot cost 80QAR for me so 4x80 = 320 QAR... Taxi prices seems correct, but i did not use a taxi last 2 years. I am using uber and prices are fair.
4) My house rents includes all the utilities so i do not pay but 250 QAR is correct for water + electricty (kahra + maa)... House internet is also 200 QAR per month.
5) Cinema prices is correct, 40 QAR is a normal type but if you increse the standards such as 3D or IMAX it also increases to 80-150 QAR...Again my suite provides me a gym so i do not pay for gym but i know the gym montly rent is around 400 QAR.... Cheapest gym might be around 200-250 QAR...
6) I do not have a child , unfortunately i do not have any idea.
7) Clothing is more expensive compared with my country, thus i did not buy any clothes here first 4 years... I was buying when i visit my country... But i discovered some brands such as columbia is cheaper (nearly 1/3) so i started to buy clothes from such brands.
8) Rent is the biggest expense here...I pay 5000 QAR for a suite and i am quite happy... You can find a bedspace for 1000QAR... It says 3bedroom apartment is 11,6k QAR in the centre but you can find 3-bedroom apartment for 6000QAR in al mansoura/bin omran/doha jadeed....Also Ezdan provides cheap accomodation in especially al wakrah which is 30-40 minutes to Doha by car...I am trying to explain that pearl district is the most expensive place and there the prices are 6-7k for 1bedroom, 9-10k for 2 bedrom and 12-13k for 3 bedroom
9) Expats can not buy properties in Qatar thus do not bother for this item...Expats can only deal for 99 years in pearl district.
10) Salary i should not comment... in my project, basic nepali workers get 1000QAR but our PD gets 140k QAR...

I can answer if you have any questions about doha.

Afternoon All

I've been approached by a recruiter for a 22 month contract role in Doha (Engineering). Offer is day rate of USD590 with a monthly allowance of USD7000 to cover housing, transport, schooling etc. Package also includes for flights, medical and insurance for me and my family.
Would this be sufficient for a family of four (kids are 9 and 7) and is this a part of the world I would be comfortable allowing my daughter to be exposed to?

Hi i got an offer for 10000QAR, plus accommodation plus transport. i have a family contains my wife and school going daughter. Could anyone assist me should i join or what
#woof on Sep 29, 2017 :
This is pretty inaccurate. If you plan to move with your family, I would consider moving elsewhere. I used to live in Qatar for 4 years, and the tuition fees at an international school were around 70000 Qatari rials for high school per year, excluding the transportation costs, food, additional school fees, and the pain in the ass for the children to wake up at around 5:30-6:00 in the morning if you live a half an hour ride away from the school. If you are European or an Amercian, most likely you will live in a compound, or areas such as ''The Pearl'', where the accommodation is very expensive. For a 2 bedroom non-furnished apartment I had to pay around 12500qr rials per month. Of course, your company may cover these costs or at least a fraction of them. So, unless you live alone you are fine. If you are an American, European or other highly developed nations, to live a family is such a pain in the ass. Even though the salary may seem appealing, the costs of living are very high, and especially the product prices with the current prices, I do not suggest to move there.
#ABHISHEK on Sep 12, 2017 :
Dear #anushka ,

To save 25lakhs/yr, you need to have minimum 16,000QR/month salary. Lets say you spend approx 4000QR/month on an average(which can be reduced/increased based on your lifestyle), then you will save approx 14,000QR/month which will lead to savings of 25lakhs/year.

Whilst Walter Trueman has some valid points, I am a woman working regularly in Qatar and find many of his points absolutely ridiculous. Clearly Walter has had a bad experience but do not allow one person's bad experience with their employer and/or local government put you off this amazing location where many companies offer amazing opportunities and an excellent life.

#Ahmad on Jul 31, 2016 :
Really astonished to see the comments made by Mr. Walter. Living in Qatar for almost five years but never came across 90% of the things he mentioned (The rest 10 % is for their big SUVs and road rage and climate I do second him for that).
1) The First Thing
I am not the PRO from Qatar government neither I was told by someone to reply you but reading such a biased and negative information about Qatar encouraged me to do so.

2) The Second Thing
Yes everyone is sensitive to the things which they love most and care about. Taking criticism positively is essential part for grooming further and they are doing it. The CID never pursued you even after writing such things about Qatar.

3) The Third Thing
Will you kindly elaborate you are comparing the Rape cases with which country or Even which continent. As per my research and knowledge it is far less than the so called world powers and established democracies. The respect for women is of prime importance in their culture.

4) The Fourth Thing
The law is equal for everyone but you are right due to language barrier the Arabic speaker always have an edge. But as per the law there is no discrimination. All Qataris are not angels and it never be possible for any society but my experience they are much better than most of the others.

5) The fifth Thing
You are right about the weather condition. Qatar can’t do much for this they are really unable to relocate themselves. There are laws which prohibits to do work in afternoons, and for ratings please go through the website

I do agree there are short comings in the system but not to that extent as elaborated by Mr. Walter. Not necessarily that everybody will have the same experience. He might came across the 95% of the bad people here and I might came across the 95% of good people. But keep that in mind "what goes around comes around"

#Walter Truman on Feb 15, 2016 :
The first thing that you need to understand about Qatar is that everything you read or hear about is completely bogus. Everything is made up and Qatar inc pays a lot of money towards PR, everything is a PR stunt.
The second thing is that the Qataris are VERY sensitive to any criticism of their country. There has been many cases where expatiates have been jailed and thrown out of the country simply for accidentally saying something that we all know about in public. We only hear about these people from our embassies. There is actually a law against any bad news or press against Qatar. The media and all on-line social is monitored very carefully by CID 'agents'. the fact that there is law against even the faintest whisper of criticism against Qatar should scare you from going there. Why would the government of Qatar feel the need to jail people who wishes to express there opinions about their country. Because it they didn't, no one would end up going to Qatar, not even for the so called good money they provide. This is very important point. Qatar pays high salaries to some expatiates, mostly because they have no other option as experienced expatiates wont go there for almost all the money in the world. Just don't do it.
The third thing you should know is that Qatar is not safe. There are numerousness cases of rapes reported to police. Most of these cases are shooed of by the police and the ones that are logged are never reported officially. Sooooooo many women have already learned that it is pointless to go to the police, they just just tend to leave the country with their emotional baggage. Theft is also rampant in many areas. So if you enjoy knowing that your girlfriend or wife gets serenaded by a fat stupid Arab, then this is the place for you.
The fourth thing is that all law is catered to protect Qataris 1st, then other Muslim people. If you are an expatiate, Muslim or not and you have any issue with a Qatari it is almost always certainly your fault. The Qatari people have become extremely arrogant because they have created a system which bends to their whims, this includes even legal issues, and while they pretend to be high and mighty on the religious side, they are the BIGGEST Hippocrates in the world! They will rape your wife, steal your money, drive you out of the way with there SUV and even if you have proof, they will just deport you before you make a stink of things. Thats really how it is.
The fourth is how Qatari people and others drive on the road. Qatar has the highest road accident rate and road death statistics in the world. THis in itself, makes Qatar a very unsafe place. I have witnessed fatal accident after fatal accident, people being mowed over on the road. It comes down to arrogant LAZY driving. THey drive the biggest SUV that they can get and then these inexperienced lazy arrogant people drive. They do no work and they are so bored that the only sport they have is to intimidate everyone else. In fact when they get into an accident and you go to the traffic department it is always your fault, always, and every expatiate knows this. They will simply just buy another one after the insurance fixes it up and then leave that one. That is there attitude and thats why they are reckless killers on the road.
The fifth thing that you should know is that the climate here is REALLY inhospitable. The temperatures outside make Qatar very hostile to supporting life. Just 20 minutes under the sun without water and you seriously risk dying from dehydration. Countless laborers are taken in to the hospitals every day for heat stroke, this after they are used to working in that heat. I feel extremely sorry for these people. When they come here after being promised a better deal, there passports get confiscated, and they have no means of escaping. They are basically forced to toil outside until there is really nothing left of them. The heat in this barren desert is really the most catastrophically awe-full thing about Qatar. This then on top of every other other point makes this HELL on earth! If you ever read anything good about Qatar its because they paid them to publish it. After all that is how PR works! Qatar Sucks balls people!!!

Also the air pollution is the worst in the world, only beaten by Pakistan. There are gases from the Oil refineries that blow over Doha. There is construction and dust and pollution EVERYWHERE.

There are some positions which offer attractive salaries, but these jobs are scarce. Most of them are through agencies and 90% of the people who get these deals, get them while outside of the country. It seems that they need to lure people to Qatar somehow. But! Once you are in Qatar you can almost forget to get one of these positions, there are very few career agencies in the country.
Then there is the whole Kafala system which means that you cannot even leave the country without your employers permission. I would say that as a professional expatiate you could perhaps make it work here but you need to be getting at least 90,000 QAR pm. This will be enough for housing, schooling, etc. Don't be fooled because this is not a lot of money in Qatar, you will end up not saving anything of that, and as mentioned before these posts are few and far between. If you come here looking for work you are trapped and will be so for a very long time, don't do it!

Recently after the oil prices went down, there was a wave of layoffs. It is ironic just how quickly this happened. The people who came here gave up their lives to live in this place and just like that they get retrenched because the government has no respect for anyone else but Qataris.
From my experience and knowing people, most people just cut their losses and move on, never taking the time to write there experiences as I have with this article. I have experienced this with client after client after client.

I was trapped in Qatar for 2 years, trying to save enough money to get out and to be able to support my family for a few months. For two years in this HELL HOLE.

It is for this reason that I feel someone really needs to shed some light and explain to expatiates considering coming to Qatar, to really look again. Go there first, in summer an see for yourself before you make a decision that you WILL regret, unless you are on of the 5% of people whom I have met who does not hate it here and wishes they didn't come here and got trapped. These are always the people who get one of those very rare cushy positions, one that will most probably also be up for review a few months down the line. This is what I have seen with countless of my clients and You will see for yourself, or hopefully not.

#Qatar Guy on Jan 19, 2016 :
If you are single, 5000 QAR + accommodation and transport would be a good offer. But if you are coming here with your family, you should consider a salary of 8000 QAR or more.

I came here with my family 7 years ago and the company that I am working with provides all our needs including schooling and transportation. Salary in Qatar is tax-free. Qatar is a nice place to live with. Almost zero crime. The only thing that you wouldn't want here is the shooting 45 - 50 degrees C temperature during the summer. Summer starts from July to late November. Cold season starts from December to late April. Transition starts from April to June. You should watch the road while you are driving. Some people here don't follow speed limit.

It depends on how you want to live, what you should know is that accommodation and schools are expensive. if that is included in you're package then 4000QR per person should be more than enough.

Hello all asking about salary and education prices in Qatar. I'm 17 and my father earns roughly 35~45K QAR a month. My school fees were in excess of 65K QAR annual +2k QAR for clothes for school and 4.5 K per term bus fares. Our villa has a monthly rent of 23~30K QAR. Depending on what you are looking for Qatar can be a convinent place for a good price. However I couldn't see you living off 2~3 k QAR a month easily at all.
