Living in Portugal is quite cheap, but Cascais and the older parts of Lisbon are probably the most expensive areas of the whole country. We are renting a 3 bedroom apartment (>100m2) in a suburb of Cascais (by car 6 minutes to the railway station) and are paying EUR1200 per month. That is not cheap at all, but we have a sea view and a shared pool in the garden plus aother goodies. My recommendation is to have a good look around, regotiate and consider having a car.

I am currently paying Euros 1.000 per month for a one bedroom flat in Cascais (56 square meters)which is double the rate you show. It is furnished and has been redone but it is in a barrio thus outside the centre. Also my last elec/gas bill was Euros 64 for the month of October after 10 days occupancy. So much for the cheap living in Portugal!
