Something that can be very, very expensive and doesn't seem to be mentioned is the cost of medical care and the cost of medical insurance. I pay more in health insurance premiums plus the deductible plus out of pocket expenses than I do for just about all of my other expenses combined. I have to have an individual policy and because of recent changes in the US politics and economy there is only one carrier that will insure me, for almost $900/mo + $5000 ded. + over $5000 in out of pocket. So I think including cost of insurances would be a useful addition for estimating the cost of living.
