#PivotOfBrahmaputra on Aug 07, 2016 :
India has been drinking China's blessing water of Brahmaputra but instead has always been acting as the most ungrateful, cunning, brazen enemy of China to the extent of stealing China's territory at a border close to India which instigated the 1962 war between China and India which resulted in China's overwhelming victory, justice prevailed and also recent standing against China's historical ownership of the territory in the south China sea even in area unrelated to India, how abhorring the ungrateful busybody india is!

Singapore have to always pay money for water to Malaysia. There is no free meal anywhere in the world, even not to mention feeding your enemy for free.

In case you asked Japan to provide free water to one of its enemy, North Korea, everyone should think you must be crazy for this unreasonable request because Japan would certainly not provide water at all and indeed it is a normal relationship between enemies.

Aggressively acting as the ungrateful enemy of China, India certainly should not be allowed to access the China's blessing water so China should impose payment upon India to access water of China just like Malaysia upon Singapore. Or else China should gradually divert water of Brahmaputra to meet the need of water in many parts of China instead which consequently should certainly generate billions or a trillion of income in dollar for Chinese.

In order to access the China's blessing water as usual, India must at least contribute something towards the interest of China by supporting and standing with China always, not kind of frequent arm raising at China's border or backstabbing against it benefactor China in area not concerned to India or else China's blessing water is not worthy of India to access anymore for free

Hi!
I wonder where you can find the cheapest accommodation for a foreign man, (single room and cheapest in general). In a house with a local family, a hostel, an apartment. Anything except in the streets or anything like that. What sort of documents do you need? For short and long term.
#John, (July 5, 2016) Could you give us more information about those cheap rooms in the are where you live? Where should I go and ask? Do they give you a contract? How long does it last? What documents do you need to close the deal and start to live? Does the price include bills?
Is there any website where you can find cheap rooms?
I have not arrived in Beijing yet but I plan to stay, at least, until next summer, if I don't have Visa problems.
Also, do you know how Can I get information to find a good Wushu school? I plan to be studying Wushu during the whole of my stay. I have no school yet. Thanks a lot!

Thanks a lot, everyone!

I think China should review all news in Google , especially news related to China and demand correction for very few corrupt news.

Also should cage in especially "the national interest online" site which seems to encourage US go into war with China according to their releases below where the indian dave majumdar suggested it was the best time for US for military conflict with China now as the military gap was high but the gap would be closing gradually later unsustainably and nuclear option wasn't on the table for the military conflict now in his stupid and cunning guess (without being aware of the possibility of US being easily defeated in the next conflict just like the combined force of US and Nato were defeated by the then poorly equipped Chinese army in the Korean war and unless being threated with a nuclear war, the whole Korea should have been liberated at that time) to give US a peace of mind entering for a military conflict with China. And the other writer mentioned US lagging behind China in many fields and seemed to suggest US to protect its interest and consequently take some actions unfavorable to China.

New Report Details Why a War between China and America Would be Catastrophic

Is the Rest of the World Ditching America to Trade With China?
http://nationalinterest.org/feature/the-rest-the-world-ditching-america-trade-china-17237

Loser japan surrendered in ww2 but successfully bribed for an escape of punishment for the worst war crimes in human history and then bought US now to the extent of turning US to be its slave now unlike never seen before in the previous US government administrations just like the negros were slaves under the era of founding father of US, Washington president.
What I mean is that japan is as cunning as fox and should be monitored around the clock and this animal should not be allowed to approach our close comrade Russia to sow discord among our brotherhood and if needed, the animal should be sacrificed as a gift to our comrade. With the remaining fox gone, the second wave of lasting peace would come which the world has been anticipating patiently since the death of hitler and mosolini which brought the first wave of peace but it is not enough as evidenced in the unrest south China sea of China today.
#ActionOfVision on Jul 27, 2016 :
Japan is clearly the main culprit not only causing all the unrest and instability in the south china sea of China but also dangerously persuading and conspiring with few nations which have interest in the south china sea of China and openly challenge the historical right of the south china sea of China along with its accomplices as never seen before and even created a fake verdict from a fake UN-backed court which was not backed by UN and it is not even a court but just merely an organization which can be hired with money. If this keeps on going without vengeance or lawsuit against the criminals such as Japan, philippines for justice, not only the south china sea but also the rest of China’s territories such as Xinjiang, Tibet, etc would be challenged one after another in the very soon future to the extent China might be divided and possibly finally collapsed consequently. This is kind of the second challenge from Japan since the WW2 and the challenge this time should not be ignored and should be responded sufficiently and swiftly to the extent of shutting up the troublemaker Japan forever. However, in order to safeguard the world peace, China beforehand have to deploy points of emergency response to all over the world near the military camps inside and outside of the US mainland and the few adherent allies of US and then China should be able to shut up Japan safely without fear of consequence and then simply label the punishment upon Japan for its WW2 crime which everyone is well aware of so should be accepted eventually.

China should virtualize the end result of next war and then swiftly implement all the necessary preparations accordingly from the view of the end result as needed to secure a complete final victory. Economy is nothing important anymore if sovereignty were lost so priorities have to be adjusted accordingly.

I think the search result of news from Google regarding China severely harms the interest of China so China should work with Google in order to not allow Google manipulate its English news section to deliberately display only the anti-China news without showing the pro-China news in the list of news when looking for news with keywords such as, “China”,” south China sea”, etc in the Google search engine.
#VerdictsFromChina on Jul 15, 2016 :
The world has been fed with wrong medicine through the made-up verdict which was bought with money by territory thief philippines which was supported and helped in the disgraced shadow by Japan pm and his accomplices including his adviser and supposedly the last negro president of US, the once opium addicted, dishonest and spendthrift obama. Most media of philippines even cheated its readers that the made-up verdict was being backed by UN though not really backed by UN. So China have a great responsibility to clarify immediately not to let the readers of google news being cheated anymore by the dishonest thief philippines.

China have more money than the good-for-nothing beggar philippines so why not consider to purchase a few verdicts to strengthen her claim over the south China sea as well as spreading the truth behind the south China sea of China through the releases of verdicts purchased as phillipines did.

The medias of phillipines, japan and US have been swiftly and largely spreading the propaganda of the purchased and made-up verdict and somewhat achieve their purpose to the extent few countries in europe and asia supported the territory thief philippine without realizing the lies behind the verdict since there is not or only a very few source of news to cover the truth behind the territories of China in south China sea through either google or bing site where most people of the world access to check news regarding the south China sea of China. So it is extremely important for China to educate the world regarding the south China sea of China through news around the clock immediately in both google and bing search engines so that people would realize the truth behind the south China sea of China and would accept China's historical claim of the south China sea eventually through understanding of the truth to the extent the territory thief philippine and its accomplices Japan and obama being boycotted and not welcomed anymore for cheating and conspiracy against the historical right of China.

If the United nations on the law of the sea (UNCLOS) serves no purpose of the interest of China, China should abandon it immediately without hesitation. China should learn from Russia of how it handled the Ukraine matter. China should act bad in firmness without showing weakness and hesitation in order to achieve its purpose just like Russia handling in Ukraine matter, I think China playing nice with honesty like before upon the territory thieves such as philippines is kind of mistake admitting in the world view since the verdict has been released so playing nice and negotiation with the thieves should altogether be removed from the side of China to show the world both that China was wronged and targeted by thieves and criminals and China never make a mistake with the territories of her neighbors in the south China sea since the end of WW2.

In this nuclear era, the military strength of US should not be frightening to anyone with enough prepared nuclear power so China shouldn't even mind and praise the military strength of US which is nothing anymore compared to the nuclear power in order to not make US so proud and arrogant unnecessarily to the extent of looking down on China repeatedly resulting the undesirable situation of today to China so China should clarify her true position of superiority being able to defeat anyone in the world with the same level US in order to let the crazy US back down to save her as* from destruction. With nuclear power well prepared, China is militarily as strong as US and only what matters is the first striker who would be the final winner of all. So with both nuclear armed well, the dishonest tactic applied by US in the south China sea of China shall result a great failure eventually unlike countries unarmed with nuclear power in middle east or south america where US won a few times before using this kind of dishonest tactic and unfair manipulation.
#FakeVerdict on Jul 14, 2016 :
"permanent court of arbitration" which released a verdict regarding the disputed territories in the south China sea is not really a court as it appear in its name but only merely an organization which is not related to UN and is not backed by UN. It should not be confused with the international court of justice which is the primary branch of the united nation(UN), while the "permanent court of arbitration" is not UN agency. For detail of this organization, please refer to this link, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Permanent_Court_of_Arbitration

Since this fake name is not a court but merely an organization, it has no right to release a verdict or ruling regarding the south China sea of China.

Furthermore, philippines bought a verdict exactly what it wanted with the help of Japan from the beginning in 2013. The leader of the 5 members who resulted producing the recent verdict was not only a Japanese but also a close adviser to the current cunning japanese pm. And the other 3 members were installed at the recommendation of either Philippines or Japan. So it is not a surprise the verdict met more than the demand of philippines.

As mentioned earlier, this organization is not related to UN and is not backed by UN, this organization earned money by collecting fees from country like philippines who raised matter to this organization. So it is no surprise this organization produced a verdict tailoring its customer philippines' wish and request and even worse philippines even provided unreliable, distorted evidence to the organization such as a piece of writing from a university lecturer from Taiwan as a proof that Taiping island couldn't maintain life as no water, etc available and didn't verify whether or not the piece of writing was a fact or fiction. Consequently, Taiping island where philippines well know and committed arson before was said to be a rock instead of an island, thanks to the cunning dog-like philippines, philippine has also become a rock not a nation according to its shallow standard.

Conclusion, Japan and Philippines must be severely punished for fabricating this fake verdict which is deliberately targeted China and Taiwan and caused unrest throughout the world. I think the right punishment for philippines should be by not only taking back the stolen territory but also 20 billions compensation from philippines. The organization that produced this fake verdict should be requested a compensation more than what this organization can afford to result the collapsion of this organization. Since Japan did not learn the nuclear lesson in 1945 from US, Japan should be given more nuclear lesson this time from china and then should be installed with a peace-loving government the soonest possible and then consequently US would go back to where they're coming from in peace since they would no longer be bribed by the peace-loving japan government.
#RestoringForefathersLand on Jul 13, 2016 :
I am an oversea Chinese and couldn't sleep well during the last 2 nights due to the unfair, insulting verdict regarding the territory of China in the south China sea from the Amsterdam red-light district. And I think over the 1 billion Chinese people all the world would share the same sentiment just like mine and believe US and Japan would have no more peace and easy day from now onwards.

Territories in the south China sea have always been China's and it was also well ducumented historically that they were returned to the China government by Japan after WW2 because Japan was a loser to the China-Japan WW2. So the historical ownership of the disputed territories in the south China sea has always been China's and can't be denied the fact historically. Philippine is actually a thief stealing the unguarded territories of China in the south China sea in 1970. All the scums as well as its accomplice US, parasite Japan who either produced the corrupt verdict or siding with the most shamelss thief Philippine from the Netherland Amsterdam red-light district should dig their own graves and drop dead to atone their sin out of shameness or else what the differerence between those people and dogs would be.China must release and disclose the after-WW2 ceding document of the territory in the south China sea from Japan to China as much as possible to let the world realize on how the verdict was based on fact distortion from the court of Amsterdam red-light district and seek for an apology and conpensation from the court of Amsterdam red-light district immediately.

If nothing significant result were from the verdict, China might ignore creating a conflict in the south China sea. However, since the verdict has outright trampled the historical right of china's ownership in the south China sea, for the sake of forefathers' territory, pride and dignity, China must immediately restore and seize her lost territories in the south China sea or else China would forever regret taking no action this time at the right moment later on. I think no discussion is needed anymore with the dishonest thief Philippine because it shows how weak and undetermined China is, China is not invading Philippine just unlike Russia invading Ukraine but China is merely restoring her lost territory from the territory thief Philippine. What is more justified than China restoring her lost territories from thief countries? Or else the only remaining choice for China is to drop dead later or in the future for no taking action now out of regret and shameness. So making the right choice now from China is very very important.

China helped fight independence for both North Korea, Vietnam and succeeded but not being able to save her own territory in the south China sea which is owned by China legally and historically would be a nightmare for over a billion people in China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macau as well as hundred of millions of oversea Chinese across the world. Chinese people all over the world are ready to assist to the Chinese government in their fight to restore and seize the lost territories from the territory thief Philippine and its accomplice bankrupt US and parasite almost-collapsing Japan.

China have indeed advanced military preparation ahead of the neighbours by at least 13 years, probably by 20 years, thanks to the vision of the previous leaders so China is militarily is ready and should deploy her military now at the very right moment with the right equipments to restore its lost territory without any delay while it still still a chance. If there were a military conflict with neighbors after probably 6-13 years, China might not be a winner anymore as its neighbors would be then as rich as Saudi Arabia for sucking the resource in China's territory in south China sea and would also then be well equipped with military weapons. So an immediate conflict is a necessary solution for the richer and better of future China, foreign advises even from close friend Russia would not be in the benefit of China's interest so China should make the right decision on her own without listening foreigner's no-China-interest advises for her own future, richer China because China repossesses the mountain of gold from her lost territories in the south China sea.

US stumbling-block ? To think it simple, the current strength of US is nothing great in this current nuclear era. But in order to defeat US, one need to carry or station nuclear weapons remotely all over the world, especially near the US military camps inside or outside of the US mainland as well as its adherant few allies so this might need a lot of resource to carry out but carrying out so would certainly return you peace and a final victory over US eventually. Muslim all over the world including Muslim in US would be happy to help China in her fight against US, so far as I am aware of all of my Muslim friends either Indian, Malaysian, Burmese, Singaporean, Britain, American etc are raised being taught an extreme hatred towards US and always predicting the collapse of US in the near future and it seems their hadred comes from US protecting the Israel.
#HistoricalRight on Jul 12, 2016 :
In response for the invalid verdict regarding the south China sea which was not based on historical ownership from the corrupt court of Netherlands Amsterdam red-light district, China should release and announce a righteous verdict regarding the south China sea based on the historical ownership and seek for the cost of damage resulting from the corrupt verdict of the immoral Amsterdam red-light district.

Since there is no righteous world court currently but only fact distortion, manipulation and constipation instigated by the shameless US across the world , China should announce to open a world court based on the historical fact in order to prevent another country after China suffering the same injustice discrimination from this kind of corrupt court such as from the immoral Amsterdam red-light district. I think it is also time for China to recover and seize lost territories in south China sea from territory thief Philippines right after announcing the new verdict of ownership right in the south China sea which is based on historical ownership.

If needed, China should also ally with the countries of the middle east including the countries of the enemies of US in order to stop the terrorism brought by US and end the the unfair manipulation of US across the world quickly.

i live in Sunhe, Chaoyang, Beijing. Northeast BJ
in the middle of Wangjing and the Airport.
There are many cheap apartments out here.
Cheap rooms run around 1200, 1500, 1900 per month. for 1900 you get a bigger room with a private bathroom and shower. The place is called KangYingCun, Chaoyang, Beijing
Be prepared to dish out around 6,000rmb when you first move in. first, last month rent + security deposit. But it's alot less then rooms around the main part of Beijing. 2nd ring rd, 3rd ring rd, 4th ring rd.(expensive) Outside S50 highway is cheaper.
Many small markets restaurants near. Also many buses run all around the place from Wangjing to the airport.
Beijing is not expensive, only depends on your lifestyle. Shanghai is higher.

I live in Beijing. Housing in Beijing is really expensive, if you want to buy apartment in Beijing of 100 m2, you must prepare more than 6 million RMB, and of couse you must have a Beijing household registration first, then you can buy a house. Besides housing, other costs in Beijing are cheap, I think the vegetables and pork are really cheaper than other cities in China. The tickets of subway is from 3RMB to 7RMB or more, but most white-collar workers spend 5RMB for a single trip. Clothing is not expensive, for the same brand, its price in China is a little expensive than in USA or Europe, but there're many Chinese brands are cheaper than these famous brands, and the quality of the clothing is really good.

Hello, i am wondering how much is the daily spending for someone who is new to Beijing. I'd mostly live of fried noodles, chicken, maybe some eggs, have an occasional desert like fried bananas or some snacks like peanuts. I usually don't like eating out a lot. For living i prefer a small 1 bedroom apartment, preferably with the kitchen in the livingroom (like a studio apt). The apartment should be close(up to 700m / half a mile) to an underground station because i prefer public transportation and have a western style toilet.

How much will i probably need per month?
#UKEXPAT on Feb 12, 2016 :
Also, a bottle of 'decent wine' from an import store like April Gourmet can easily be found for less than 100.
#UKEXPAT on Feb 12, 2016 :
Paul (previous person to leave feedback) has no clue! Yes, of course imported beer will set you back in excess of 20 yuan, but local beers from a supermarket are definitely 5 yuan a can. Perhaps in a restaurant you'll pay 12 yuan for a local pint (568 ml) of beer but that's reasonable enough, right? Also, the Tsingdao beer isn't "crappy", it's fairly decent and worth a try.
#Paul on Jan 19, 2016 :
You have got to be kidding! I noticed in one of Numbeo's comparison bar charts at the bottom of the page that Beijing was rated as (slightly) LESS expensive than a number of other East Asian cities such as Phnom Penh!!

So, I had a look through the Beijing figures, and I find they are WILDLY off on many things. And based on a TINY sample (138 contributors out of the tens of thousands of expats who live there??). I kind of suspect that most of the contributors are just "fifty centers", super-patriotic Chinese who've been tasked with bigging up Beijing to try to not discourage foreigners from taking jobs there.

There's a big difference between local restaurant prices and foreign restaurants/bars. You might be able to get a local draft beer for 5-10 RMB in a local restaurant, but in a proper bar it's going to cost you at least 20. I can't think of a decent imported beer that costs less than 30 RMB a bottle anywhere now, and most are more in the 40-50 range - so god knows where that 18 RMB bottom end (and 20 RMB average??!! the crappy local Tsingtao costs more than that!!) comes from. And 80 RMB wine is probably "bottom end" rather than "middle". You can't really get anything decent for less than 150-200.

Though the value of China currency has been falling but is still overvalued over 17% from 8.0(benchmark) to 5.9 against a US dollar.

It is best to always stick to the fair benchmark value to gain the utmost trust on currency value from all international holders.

@A.Ham
i can tell you about that if your salary would be enough when your whole family come to beijing.
but you must tell me first how many kids do you have and how old are they .because education fee is a big part .
and if your wife have a job too ?
beijing have most cheapest food and cloths.but education and entertainment are much more than others. we charge you different price from locals.
if there are only you and your wife .it's pretty good life in here
and if you can cook. that's will save you lot of money for that
because vegetable and fruit is pretty cheap in here.
if you have any more questions ask me
by emails :sayaddy@live.cn

My husband is going for post doctoral research...the unversity said 5000 rmb he will get as scholarship.. Is it possible to live with that much of money in bajing for a couple...
No house rent is provided by the university... Please suggest...if anyone have any knowledge about the lowest rent of a small living place thn kindly give the information....
#Alex on Mar 15, 2015 :
Rent aside... 2000 RMB a month is possible to live on in Beijing if you're not including getting drunk, happy ending massages and so forth. So a salary of 10000 RMB a month after tax and rent should see you with plenty of savings. Admittedly though I'm in the South West... which certainly helps me to keep my money in my pocket and not behind the bars of Sanlitun.

Salary is not enough for whatever they offer because most corporations have "fixed" salary range.
Therefore, you must ask "expat package" to extend more your overall salary package. Meaning some expatriation cost need to be reimburse or deserve an allowance.

Hi,

I Recently got offered a job in Beijing where the pay equals the equivalent of £1400 a month including accommodation. I was just wondering would that be a comfortable salary in relation to the cost of living?

Thanks

What monthly income, in USD, would an American need to have in order to live a descent life in Changsha, China? I'm retired, but have a friend who is an Architect over there, and she is asking me to come over for a prolonged visit, in order to help her (with children, repairs, etc.) at least until her big project & 60-70 hour weeks are over with...

There may or may not be a romantic component to this, but if I went over to help her out, I'd want to be able to pay my own way, and improve her life, not diminish it. She is well off, with a good job, and parents that are too (Doctor & University Professor), so she could probably pay for me to help her. but I'd rather do it as a Gift to her, and pay my own expenses from my Pension.

What would it take to live there ??

I say, jolly old fellas, it may appear to give low costs in foods but property in Beijing equals to alot of low/underdeveloped areas, but for luxurious near transports is too much pricey for everyone in China. I say, i'd stick to my Euro if your smart.
#David on Nov 26, 2013 :
Lol, it's kinda funny to get all these different comments from people living in the same city. It's like everyone is living in their own Beijing. I myself found a job paying about 14000 RBM in total compensation (11000 salary + 3000 housing allowance) in USD that's about 2300 a month. hell not a bad wage even to my standards. and if i can find an apartment for 4000 RMB and I'm only paying 65 cents for half a litter of beer... man Id say you guys are a bunch of whiners lol

My sister lived in Beijing. She was in the outer suburbs and her rent, gas and water was paid by her employer. She earned 5000 RMB a month and she lived very comfortably.
#MissC on Oct 05, 2013 :
If you can really live a regular chinese life then these price information might be more or less true.
1. you can eat in an inexpensive restaurant for small money but you dont know if you are eating pork meat or rat. anyway it was cooked with recollected oil from the street so you might end up in a hospital next day. this is for sure not making anything up, it is all over all international but also national news.
2. you can think chinese market do offer cheap vegetable but you can not check how strong it has been contamined by pesticide. even local who ever can afford it buy from the bio section which is provided in nearly all supermarket. only then the prices equal western european markets.
3. you should know the water from the tab is not meant for drinking. but also those in the bottle, please read carefully. in europe you will usually buy mineral water but in china what you get is boiled water.
4. since the price for taxis went up, it is just a little. what changed a lot is, you pay now much more than before when you stuck in jam. but traffic jam is daily busines here. so you better dont take the cab anymore.
5. did anyone notice how slow the internet is in beijing? like 10 years back in western europe. hahaha.
6. it is mostly not very much about recreation when i think about gym. too less you pay the more people there are, gym should better be called as sweat shop.
7. you always get what you pay for, you wanna pay 500 rmb for pair of leather shoes, then be prepared when they dont survive this year. cute design always come for free. ;)
8. if you wanna spend your day time travelling then you can pay small money living in the western or southern part of beijing. but unfortunately there is not much but real china. if you want a beer or bread or salad or night life even. come to the east! and you gotta pay 8000 rmb for 1bd apt. voila...

for the salary, i do think that there must be tons of rich chinese here in bj. on my daily bike trip to work i couldnt finish counting how many luxury cars i have seen, e.g. at least one ferrari a day. and also you could never walk into carefour with only 200 rmb, carefour is supposed to be normal supermarket. you have to be very careful not spending more than what you have.

most of time, the comparison doesnt work because the quality is far not the same. even when it is supposed to, you will be surprised how different it is. just check the small printing on the packaging. you will see...

oh i forgot, the pollution comes for free too. today it is 430. tragedy, if you think about what it once was not even long ago and what it has become.

@Arlo Barlow an hour or more? What bank was this? I switched company recently and had to open a new account at Citic Bank about a month ago; it took me less than 10 minutes, the only documents I needed were my passport and temporary residence certificate, and the entirety of the 'paperwork' was signing my name twice. A few years ago my experience with China Merchants Bank was pretty much identical.

With the exception of trying to apply for a credit card, I've found the banking system here far more convenient than back in England.
#Arlo Barlow on Aug 13, 2013 :
When going to work for a company in BJ your employer will usually pay your salary into a CHinese bank of their choosing. This means you WILL have to go to a branch of that CHinse bank and spend an hour or more going through the strange hybrid process of opening a Chinse bank account.

By hybrid I mean there's a lot of computer work, lots of mouse clicks and typing.

But there's also mountains of paperwork, writing in ledgers and use of rubber stamps. And they take your picture and photograph your passport and have you enter your PIN into a mini keyboard multiple times.

It's hopefully the most Chinese bureaucracy you'll ever have to deal with. It's certainly more complex than getting your visa!
#Arlo Barlow on Aug 13, 2013 :
Almost no business in China, even in Shanghai and Beijing, accepts Visa or Mastercard - only the more expensive western places, fancier restaurants and hotels and even then it's usually only VISA/MC on a Chinese bank card, not a western bank.
#Mark Scott on Aug 13, 2013 :
@Denni D. If you're living in BJ and aren't sending the vast majority of your salary back to the USA, then $110,000 will be more than adequate.

If you can, I recommend having your salary divided into two, so you get a minimal Chinese salary and the rest goes to a US bank account. That way you get to keep the majority of your money. US taxes you on foreign-earned income but only on the amount above $90,000, so you should end up not having to pay any US tax (rightly so if you're not living in the USA, IMHO).

It's easy to draw money from your US bank account via an ATM.

#Arlo Barlow on Aug 13, 2013 :
@Leo - 8000 RMB doesn't leave a lot of room for manoeuvre. Are you getting your rent paid by your employer or do you have to pay rent out of that?

It's possible to find reasonably cheap accommodation in BJ, but then you have gas, electric, water, internet, food...I had money left over out of my 7000 RMB stipend each month, but I was alone in BJ and my rent costs were paid from my US bank account.

My wife is Chinese and we looked at apartments near New World in Chongwenmen and they sell at 70,000RMB/m2. Brochure claims 100m2 for 7mRMB, reality is you get just over80m2 as the quoted area includes the wall and a portion of the common area. 140m2 (120m2 nett) for 9mRMB. Building has 8 flats per floor & 16 floors (128units) and only 4 units left when I was there 3 weeks ago. Cannot believe the prices are sustainable!!

There are many opposite comments regarding Bejing here - some are claiming it is more expensive than stated here, some are claiming it is less.
#Anonymous on Apr 10, 2013 :
the housing price is 15% to 20% lower than real status
the mean salary should be 1000euro to 1200euro
the clothes and shoes price is too high, that is the full label price, normally people could buy it at about 20% to 50% off

#Mladen on Apr 01, 2013 :
Egg prices for Beijing are now fixed according to new comments. Thank you for your contributions.
#LM on Apr 01, 2013 :
The market prices are absolutely retarded on this site. I can only assume that the majority of contributors are completely useless at buying anything, failing even the most basic strategy of "point, grunt, hand money" which even the illiterate FOBs can manage to do.

Egg prices are also rather daft, as "1 dozen" means nothing. Small? Medium? Large? Jumbo? Extra Jumbo? Who knows! These classifications are based on weight, yet entirely ignored here.
http://www.sunnyqueen.com.au/sunnyqueenrecipes/recipe.cfm?ID=32

Eggs in Beijing are currently about 4.3 RMB per 500g. If you go for 1 dozen "large", that's 650g for 5.6 RMB. I can only imagine what idiotic prices people have been paying to get the average up to 15. I can pick out 110g monsters and get a dozen of em and that's still only 11.3 RMB.

This also fails to take into account the brown vs white. As whites cost more in Beijing with browns being common, while it is reversed in the US, as browns are "exotic" for whatever reason. And hell, even the white eggs would never reach 15 RMB for a dozen of any size.
#Alex on Mar 21, 2013 :
I have been offered a job in the city earning 16000 rmb per month. With accommodation in the city costing me 4000 rmb per month. Is this apartment likely to be good for that money and how much of my salary am I going to be able to save each month?
#Anonymous on Mar 02, 2013 :
I have been living in Beijing since 1995. Prices have gone up a lot. Renting an appartment in the city center is more likely to cost around 6000 RMB. I rent out a small appartment of 78m2 for 5500 RMB near the forbidden city which is very cheap for the location. For something bigger think 9000 to 10,000 RMB / month and if you want a more luxury place/area double that amount. Dining is more expensive as well. A simple meal will be around 100 RMB. If you would start as a teacher you will need around 10 to 15 K RMB a month to live comfortably.
#Anonymous on Feb 04, 2013 :
The price is biased for BEIJING. The groceries are not that expensive. And for the clothes, if you don't buy foreign brands, it's much cheaper! For the apartment rent price, it's more like for luxury ones.

I can`t belived that the life in Beijing it`s the same like Berlin and almost the same like N.Y. Anyway according numbeo caracas life is much better than in NY. and most European cities. This happens when the state intervenes directly on life .... and censor this life.
The life isn`t only ...minimum wage and the price of gasoline (venezuela) .... the life means to feel you free like a person.
I`m from Romania ...my wage it`s 250 euro on a month ... in western europe you can earn 1000-2000 euro , and prices are the same as in romania.
