My experience is the opposite from yours. We love the Balinese people. Have neverbeen scammed or ripped off as you state. They live in a third world country and work on average all day for $300 per month. There are loads of taxis which cost less than a quarter of what you would pay in Australia. We have no responsibility to aid them but we do. We help the families who live on the tip and give them pencils etc to help them in school. We also sponsor 3 children. Yes the Government may take the money we spend but so do every countryinthe world. I am sorry you feel the way you do.

Bali is a ripoff hell where there is no good transportation though Bali has earned a lot from tourists for decades. Where the investment earned from tourist gone? Probably stolen by the liar government already...

Tourist are not free loaders and pay lots of taxes for hotel, flight ticket, etc much more than the ethernal contribution of many worthless, dishonest local liars which're troubling tourist endlessly.

Tourist have no responsibility to aid you, liar Indonesia with whatever demand you request from tourist. You don't choose us tourist, we choose you beggar so tourist don't pay you US $10 as demanded in the news below and tourist stay away from your unworthy shithole.

There are lots of choice at other countries with good transportation but without attachment of ripoff and liar from Indonesia so consider to travel other destination instead of liar Indonesia.

Tourist are not local Chinese Indonesian to be mistreated as whatever you liar Indonesian want to, there are stronger nations behind tourist, be aware of or else misbehaved brain would be shit loaded...

Bali set to impose US$10 levy on foreign tourists

Go to the local early morning markets with an indonesian speaker to get your best prices and quantities of food, fresh and dried. Re indonesian books there are book shops like Ganesha Books in Ubud that sell 2nd hand kids books and donate to charities who might be able to help.
