Hello guys!

I want to apply for a Master programme at Aberdeen University, and I wanted to ask you what are the chances for a student to survive there with a part time job and no help from their parents?

Am I realistic enough to think that I can do this, or I'm sweet dreaming?

Thanks!

It's an OK place to live if your one of the 30% on 50k plus a year. Not so much if your part of the citys 25% which earns 15k, yes 25% of this city only earn 15k a year. How they do it I do not know.

Aberdeen will regret not giving anyone who does not earn enough to live here a helping hand to stay.

Say bye to all the NHS, police, fire service, teachers etc.

If you can earn 21-28k a year as a nurse in Aberdeen and the same salary applys to the UK regardless of where you are (appart from London) and a one bed flat costs 130k in Aberdeen or 70k in Dundee, which would you pick!?!

Lived in Aberdeen/surrounding area all my life - it's pretty expensive. As an "oil city" the cost of living is rather high, 40m^2 1 bedroom apartments sell for £130,000 (in a bad area) up to £150,000 in better areas, bigger one and two bedroom apartments in good areas can run up to £250,000. Unless you are in oil and gas, or have a combined income with a partner, you may struggle to live here.

That being said, the oil price is in a massive slump at the moment, so things may change.

There is no point in being in this city unless you are in oil or a well paid job. I earn 25k a year in the NHS and I cannot afford to move out. House prices and rent are crazy, with barely any council housing available.

If you are single, I'd say you need atleast 40k a year to have a half decent life here, not just a mere existence.
