I can't count the number of times our car has been entered. We started to leave it unlocked so they wouldn't shatter the window. Our home has been broken into 3 times in 3 years, and there have been numerous other attempts. We live in the wealthiest part of Uccle on a quiet out-of-the-way street. The police do nothing. They don't patrol. The do little investigation. In short, they are worthless.

This city is in a late stage of social decay. I expect it to get worse because there is no political will to do anything about it. The population of the city is, in my view, comprised almost completely of impotent, effete bureaucrats, on the one hand, and thugs and cretins, on the other.

High crime rates are a choice. Compare crime rates in Brussels with Moscow and you'll see what I mean.

Got attacked yesterday in Uccle (one of the nicest neighborhoods of Brussels) by a gang of one arab and two black men. Concealed carry of weapons is prohibited so Belgian politicians made sure you cannot defend yourself if attacked. If you can avoid this city.

After 6 years living in Brussels I'm done. Terrorist attacks every month, pollution, rubbish on every corner, etc... although it's true could be one of the best options if you wanna be a war reporter.

City center, south, southeast and eastern parts of the city are relatively safe, though avoid city center during the night. Avoid however altogether the North, northwest, west, and southwest parts of the city even during daytime. If you are a woman I suggest you travel in group if possible and dress very moderately and avoid putting on makeup as sexual harassment by arab men is very common in the city center and in public transportation, though it is not nearly as bad in Brussels as it is in French big cities like Paris or Marseille.

Brussels is a special place in Europe; not only is is a very multicultural city that relies almost exclusively on the EU to exist, but it has the most uneven distribution of crime on the entire continent. I've traveled quite a bit, and I have rarely seen a city with such dramatic differences in crime levels between areas. Some parts of Brussels have virtually no crime, whereas others would blush if you called them sketchy. What's even more shocking is that neighboring areas WITHIN certain boroughs/communes have drastically different crime rates. There is no better example than the infamous Molenbeek area; some parts are safe for even the most fragile of individuals, whereas others are worse than the Bronx in the 80s and 90s.

This city is truly a maze of safety.

Brussels is mostly safe, but yes you must know where you go. There some part of brussels that are not safe(ie:south station, north station, North of brussels ect, its hard to say where you are unsecure as its some part of each district.
Im local from brussels.

Brussels must be higher in the crime rankings, there are many Moroccans and it is one of the cities where there is the most robbery of Europe and there is a district which it is called Molenbeek is the capital of terrorism
