My husband and I want to move to St. Petersburg next summer with our new baby. What neighborhoods would you recommend we move into? Are some neighborhoods safer/cleaner/fancier than others? If we don't have a car, do we need to live close to the city to get places? I would appreciate any advice you can give!!

@ Chris - Learn the Cyrillic alphabet and then learn basic Russian, at the very least. It's an amazing, albeit slightly difficult, language. No students will respect you or want to learn from you unless you can at least communicate with them on a basic level. Good luck.

What can I be paid for performing in restaurants per hour? By performing I mean singing. What's the average price I could charge per hour?

At the moment, the cost and Markets Transportation overstated approximately 2 times from reality. Apparently because of the collapse of the ruble.
#Dave Strider on Jan 08, 2015 :
it's so cold though why would you torture yourself like that
#Gareth Marshall on Nov 19, 2014 :
Hi all,
I've been living in SPB for a year now, I moved here with my wife who is Russian. I retrained as an English teacher and I am making between 35-50k roubles per month, but only working about 15-22 hours to make that kind of money.

I would say these figures on this site are pretty close to the truth in terms of cost of living(food clothes etc), but are well off the mark in terms of average wage and monthly cost of renting. Most unqualified Russians I speak to make around the 22-25k mark and even professionals I have met are making between 30-40k r with university degrees. As for rent, you can comfortably rent a 2 bedroom flat in the city centre for 35,000r and in the suburbs you could get a 3 bed flat for a similar amount.

Anyone who has been offered a job paying $10 per hour, or $1000 per month, or even 1000 Euro per month, I would say, if you are looking to come here to travel, that kind of money should afford you to have a decent life here, you will be able to afford to eat out and have plenty of fun if you are good managing your money. If you come to SPB, shop in the food market at Senaya or Vladimirskaya and look to share rent with a room mate and you will have an awesome time :-)

Salaries in St Petersburg are much higher than Russian average. I moved here a year ago from a mid-sized city in European part of Russia.

Incomes in St Pt and above all in Russia are boosted in fact the official russian income average is 731$ or 566€.It's easy to realize that the site being from Serbia support a higher image of Russia. Not trustble site.
