Average monthly salary is not enough to survive in Kathmandu. I'm working in abroad and sending money Nrs. 50000 is not enough for small family and mother. Even I have my own home no need to pay a rent. Everything being expensive including education and medical.
My family was here with me for past four months it was cheaper than keeping them in Nepal.

The Kathmandu Valley is an excellent place to live. It's safe and really cheap to live here. For retired women you can live here in a western style group home for under $700 a month with plenty of spending money. A private car and driver, food prepared for you, a private room with bath, etc. and you will have a great time. If you need one root canal it will pay for your air fare with the savings. You can contact me or check it out by doing a search for Ye Ole Bitches Retreat Center in Changunarayan. You could also do it by yourself for around $1,000, but you'd have to ride the public bus, which means you'd probably end up living in Kathmandu City-very polluted. It's better to live a little higher up.

I don't think the apartment rate is correct. A three bed room apartment near the city center cost at least Rs.30,000 (excluding electricity and other costs).

This is the best place to live
