I have been to Albania, is def a hidden gem. Tony just get a cheap return flight 1 month, Wizzair UK to Budapest or Belgrade, book 6 to 10 weeks in advance and is dirt cheap, stay a couple of nights in Budapest or Belgrade. There is a Montenegro Special rtrn train ticket to Montenegro (66 euros and valid 1 month). Take the train to either podgorica or much better to Bar, end of the line. 25 minute bus trip to Ulcinq. stay overnight, accom is dirt cheap and a fantastic resort. Minibuses run from there into Shkodra (max 10 euros).Shkodra to Tirane about 2 hours by bus. Vlora a nice city by the sea, a 3 hours by bus trip to Tirane. Albania is a bit like Monty Python meets Borat, but fantastic country if you want a great adventure on a budget and want to stretch your £. Train trip Budapest to Bar approx 24 hours, make sure you get a sleeper,GO FOR IT, with summers like this year in the UK, at least you get a decent 6 months good weather.

I live in Tirana and I have to say that some prices are lower then those appearing here. @Tony, you shuold come and visit Albania, there are some nice cities you can do a very good living like Korca or Vlora because Tirana is too noisy and polluted
#darian on Nov 15, 2011 :
your rent index for tirana seems way too low, esp for luxury rentals
#Tony Leddy on Aug 17, 2011 :
Albania sounds Ideal I am retired in the UK with a monthly income of £750
Any advice on living in Albania would be most welcome :)
