Valencia is a wonderful place, but it’s gotten a lot more expensive in the past few years. Rent has tripled, groceries and restaurants are more costly and taxis seem to be twice as much. If you move there on a digital nomad visa, you have to pay high social security and high taxes.
Jim & Sally on Oct 30, 2025:
Instead of reading comments, you should pay a visit to Valencia, it is so nice being here !

The beach is awesome, we spend a lot of time strolling the boulevards!

After 3 months living here, I can say we made the right choice! No more L.A. traffic jams!

We moved from Texas to Valencia in Spain and we could not be happier !

Friendly people, most things twice as cheap and great weather !

A 3 Three-course meal for two in a restaurant can easily be found for around 35 euros, including drinks.

In europe there's no tipping or added taxes in restaurants, bars. The price you see is what you pay.

I joined a very modern gym in Valencia (just opened) for only 20 euros a month including drinks.

Cannot afford gym in Spain for 50 euros and I only pay £16 in UK

Spain is expensive to live in, if you work in There. If you are going on holidays is obviously cheap with your GBP exchanged and your earnings from abroad. Spain is expensive for Spanish, young people cannot afford to buy even with a good job because the salaries are very low. WAKE UP

I don't know why people comment here that Valencia or Spain is expensive ?!?

Spain is totally not expensive when you compare with Australia, USA, New Zealand, Switzerland.

There might be some very jealous people posting here.
Barbara on Sep 28, 2023:
These comments here should be taken with a grain of salt.

Valencia has a great climate, friendly population and prices are not as dramatic as portrayed here in the comments.

Fully agreed with Marco below. One thing to mention as well is about how expensive life is compared to other places in Europe. Gone are the days where you could rent a decent central place for 500/700 euro or go to eat a good dinner for 15/20 euros. People who are saying that are paying low rent is because they are on old contract and landlord cannot raise the rent according to the Spanish law.
Marco on Aug 04, 2023:
Valencia is a great city to spend a few months or a year maximum if you have a well paying job somewhere else. If you dig down in the city culture and real life outside of the expat bubble you will see Valencia and generally speaking Spain for what it is and let me tell you that you will not like it. It is all good and dandy if your only problem is where to go to eat or what to do during the day but if you are serious about this place and you need to go through the bureaucracy - the tax system - flat renovation with the great majority of the people to be totally untrustworthy or borderline scammers. It is even worse if you try to open a business and you are trying to find some trustworthy employees and you will soon realize that they are rarer than diamonds. Lets not even start with the tax systems and their insane taxes.

Living not far from center, rent 820 for 3 bedroom, make 2850 a month net, plus a 13th month bonus in spain.

Energy is pricey, but hey it's caliente here (hot). Only in january it can be a bit chilly, but only late at night.

I live in the USA so living in Spain is a real bargain!!

Some comments here make you believe Valencia is expensive, but it is isn't.

More expensive than Paris? What a joke. I'm living in city center, 78m2 two bedrooms for 800 plus electricity 102/mth.
Fidelo on Aug 23, 2022:
Valencia españa, is really expensive since September 2021... Rent is very expensive, transportation gym too is more expensive than Paris or Germany ...except if you are student sharing apartments cheap and eat industrial chicken.. Valencia is nice middle city but expensive and complicated if you have children..
Fidelo on Aug 23, 2022:
The cost of life in Valencia, Spain is higher than France... 3 rooms furnished good is between 1300 to 1600 Euro.. Gym is more expensive than frankfurt or Paris is around 50€/months...
Noel on Feb 26, 2022:
The figure on utilities is now way off. As of January 2022 I'm paying €144 a month for electricity alone, and that's without air conditioning or central heating. Estimate now €200 monthly just for electricity and water.

Hi, I'm from Lithuania and I'm planning to try to work remotely from Valencia. How about internet speed in and coworking spaces in Valencia?
