In 1980 I owned a taxi in North Bay. Waiting time then was $25 per hour. After 40 years, the rate is only $31.50 per hour. In the 1980s the fare started at $1.60 and $1.00 per km. The $5.00 start rate is reasonable now. From the 1980s the mileage rate @1.00 per km.untill now at $2.07 per km.is roughly doubled in 40 years. Minimum wage in 1980 was about $4 per hour. Now at $14 per hour, min.wage is 3 1/2 times higher than it was in 1980. In 40 years taxi fares are only about double and waiting time is only 1 1/4 X more. Taxi owners/drivers could do quite well 40 years ago. Now with the fare slightly more than double in 40 years, it definitely doesn't coincide with minimum wage at 3 1/2 times higher.
