Sorry, poor proof reading:

Taxis are very expensive and none will use a meter their despite their advertising (and the law).

Uber & Grab met with great resistance from the local transport operators and Uber has now pulled out, selling it's customers to Grab. Taxis are very expensive and none will use a meter their advertising (and the law). Almost all transport is done on "fixed" fares which are usually not displayed and drivers will quote huge prices to tourists or anyone they think they can fool. Grab is by far the best service for regular users of hired transport.

I hate the constant hassle. Why on earth do they call it metered taxi if the always bluntly refuse to use the meter. This way they will always lose from Uber and Grab.

In Chiang Mai today, got a taxi from shopping centre to hotel - about 5 km. Driver did not want to use the meter. Kept saying "Chiang mai taxi has no meter". He had covered his meter with a card. I discovered this, then he got very nervous. Ended up paying a discount on the fixed fare.
