Public healthcare has effectively collapsed for a variety of reasons .

Private healthcare is satisfactory though.

NB, Greece has malaria again (it had been eradicated in the 1970's), since 2011 :

Especially in private maternity hospitals the costs for births are very high, comparing to other greek cities. An average amount is about 3500 - 5000 euros in a normal room.

Health care in private sector / institutions in Athens is in general of relatively high standard however, very expensive
