Like many mid-sized cities, Zadar does have some issues that appear in reports, such as organized crime related to drugs, vandalism, or occasional hooliganism. There are also certain neighborhoods with a worse reputation, mostly due to isolated incidents like drug dealing or nighttime disturbances. This is not unusual and exists in most cities.
There have been a few more serious incidents reported recently, including isolated violent cases and a murder case in 2025, but these are rare and not something that affects tourists.
Tourists spend most of their time in the old town and main coastal areas, which are very safe, well-policed, and busy. Violent crime in the city center is extremely uncommon.
Zadar is a great place with great people.
It's either something going on in the suburbs (which I doubt), or some of the data is not reliable.
