a. Walking around at night you might encounter violence thugs
b. Walking during day, generally ok. Threatened several times for looking at people the wrong way, or silly accusations.
c. A lot of break-ins, so you need security, and to have your property watched. The recent selling off of public housing has helped a great deal.
d. A few years ago there was a lot of fighting in the streets, but no longer.
Of course it depends on where you are. I was in Gonville. Break-ins are everywhere, but St Johns Hill, Bastia Hill and Springvale are the better areas.
Wanganui has a bad reputation for gangs. I believe they are in Castlecliff, up river and Gonville, however honestly, I rarely see them. When I was looking for a property, there were streets where you could hear screaming babies, wives. There are untidy neighbourhoods with a lot of wasted cars. Best to avoid those streets. Look on Google Maps.
I like Wanganui. One of the better towns. The only thing is distance to the big city is a little far.
