Crime in Uvita, Costa Rica

My family of 4 just got back from Uvita.
Beautiful place nice people but there is a reason that the homes have walls, fences, some barbed wire and some with bars in the windows.
Last Tuesday our nice Airbnb home was broken into while we were out for just an hour for dinner.
We later found out another Airbnb on our street was robbed just before we were
My adult daughters were scared so we found a hotel with security. It’s really to bad because we lived Uvita and the food beach surfing and more but it is what it is
