I was in Sligo ten years ago and there wasn't a lot of diversity. It sounds like things might be changing. If Sligo follows the same trend as in the UK once blacks get their feet under the table they will be prominent in the drugs trade. Sligo might buck the trend but there isent any reason why it should.

I have lived in Co. Sligo my entire life. Sligo is an extremely safe and crime rates are very low. One thing I would be cautious about is walking at very late hours [pub hours], but that's mainly it - the same problem every major city would have. Sligo's full of lovely people.

Don't pass any heed of some of the comments below. Most seem to stem from sad racists with nothing else to do but whine and complain - something they'd usually resort to doing.

i have lived and worked in london and dublin and i can confirm comparing to those cities sligo is extremely safe and safety levels are way high compared to other places based on experience.

Ryan, Michael, Patrick and Carlie - what a bunch of nonsense You have placed here...Well, I am not happy with all those immigrants too. They don't work, getting social benefits without paying even euro to the state budget, also they have free accommodation in Globe House. That's not fair at all but I never heard that they were doing any major crimes. Can You point out any?
Carlie, You wouldn't recommend? I live here 12 years so far, and for my crime rates in Sligo are very low. Which is good.

These comments are exaggerated to some extent yes crime exists in Sligo (like most larger city’s let’s be honest) but it’s moderately low the only real danger is walking alone at unearthly hours like cuntryguy said it’s not the hood, Sligo is a very quaint warm welcoming town with lots of diversity of people alike I wouldn’t never consider it to be “dangerous” by any means. The people of Sligo are some of the most inviting and helpful people.

Its north west Ireland not the hood, extremely safe spot, comments below seem to stem from racists of which there are a few but wouldnt say anything to your face so wouldnt worry about them

I agree with Ryan as well sligo is a very dangerous place to live and your more likely to get robbed walking home from work at night after u done let's say 12 hours of work and then your walking home at 3 or 4 and this lad comes around the corner and robs all u weeks of money I would not recommend to live in sligo but if u do be careful xx
