I have lived in Korea for 10 years. The numbers that you show for Seoul seem greatly distorted to me. I have never felt safer in ANY OTHER major city in the world, and I have spent considerable time in many. Walking streets alone day and night in Seoul, is common for men and women, overwhelmingly without dangerous incident, or tragic result. Actual crime statistics that involve dangerous, threatening or violent actions are remarkably low. Speculation about who may be reporting your "perception" stats for Seoul presents a real puzzle to me. I have actually lived in several other metro areas, including several in Europe and my native USA. I have been a visitor to many others. But never have I personally witnessed or felt any safer conditions than in Seoul. Virtually NO drugs. Absolutely NO guns. Certain petty crime ... of course. But very low, compared to most other cities in my experience. I've never been to Abu Dhabi, or a few of your other top ranked cities. But I have often been to Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka, Singapore, Hong Kong, and several American cities that "outrank" Seoul on your list. But, it's beyond me how Seoul doesn't rank near-equally with, or better than most of those cities. I hope you are using some scientific means to "sort out" and/or verify types of respondents to your polling, and their situations and motivations. Otherwise, count me as a doubter to the veracity of your polling.

When I experienced crime as a traveler at last year. ten to one get ripped off by a taxi. That's all. The only thing that worries some people are not friendly with dark skins.(Specially, 'india' type of skin). and so many drunken people at night. everything else is safe for sure. no gun or drugs. no thief. no gang.

Was there as a tourist twice, the safest place I have ever seen. Some people might be a bit reserved and conservative but harmless. Quite many homeless, but not aggressive. Am surprised, to see Seoul behind major European cities which safety has decreased massively. Was walking all around the city at any time of the day and never felt unsafe in Seoul. I guess it might be similar for women too. Only concern might be drunk guys in clubs at night, but I would also not consider this threat higher than in any major city in Europe, tendencially less intense actually.

Seoul is one of the safest major cities in the world. It is much safer than any North American or European major city. You can leave your laptop unattended in Starbucks for hours and nobody will touch it. People are really nice and return lost items all the time. A lot of people don't even lock their cars at night because nobody is stealing. I have never heard or experienced pickpocketing or mugging in over 10 years living here. The data here is inaccurate and I would guess from disgruntled English teachers living here. Koreans are somewhat racist, but I've never heard of an attack on foreign tourists. The only somewhat less safe area is Itaewon where lots of foreigners get into brawls and street drinking/partying/fighting happens. Also safety is a concern because of bad drivers and scooters on the road. But not crime. Honestly, in my opinion, the only safer cities in the world would be places like Singapore or Kyoto. Even Tokyo with its yakuza and drink scammers seems slightly more dangerous.

Really? Seoul is very peaceful and you can leave your belongings in the middle of road, and I'm 99pc sure no one even touch them.
